Mercedes F1 Completes Long-Haul Run With All-Electric Truck
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has made Formula One history by completing a long-haul journey solely with an all-electric truck. The team used a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 to transport its W16 race cars from its Brackley base in Northamptonshire to Zandvoort in the Netherlands for the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix, demonstrating the viability of electric trucks and the decarbonisation of long-distance haulage. Based on consumption during the trip, the eActros 600 could have covered the 673 km route on a single charge. The team, which is exclusively charged with renewable energy, operates at a dedicated Milence truck charging hub, underscoring sustainable logistics in elite motorsport.
The electric truck stood out at the Dutch Grand Prix against the diesel-powered transport used by other competitors. Earlier in the summer, the team conducted a successful pilot for the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, utilising three eActros 600 trucks to transport cars and support equipment. These runs show how battery-electric heavy-duty transport can support tight Formula One schedules while reducing emissions.
The team continues to adopt green technologies to reduce its environmental footprint and become one of the most sustainable professional sports teams globally. Since 2022, it has powered trucks and generators with HVO100, a second-generation biofuel, which saved more than 500 tonnes of emissions during the last season. This latest eActros deployment builds on that progress, signalling a shift towards cleaner race logistics and lower-carbon supply chains.
Alice Ashpitel, Head of Sustainability, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, said: “Our work is powered by a team of people who are passionate about shaping a better future – one where performance and purpose go hand in hand on our journey to become one of the most sustainable global professional sports teams. As a team, our commitment to sustainability means that we rethink not only how we move, but also how we race. While we are driven by performance on track, we are incredibly proud that our innovations travel beyond the grid. The use of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks, initially piloted at our home race in July, and then used to transport our race cars to Zandvoort, is another important step in our decarbonisation journey.”
Ash Armstrong, eConsultancy Manager, Daimler Truck UK, commented: “We are continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible with battery electric trucks. Our partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is key in demonstrating that sustainable, long-haul distribution has arrived with our eActros 600. We could not be more thrilled that one of our eActros 600 trucks has been used to transport the team’s W16 cars from Brackley to Zandvoort. We are extremely proud to showcase the impressive range and capability of this truck. It just goes to show that the era of electrification is upon us, and range anxiety is no longer an issue.”
The Mercedes-Benz eActros holds the International Truck of the Year 2025 title and offers a class-leading minimum range of 500 km per full charge. Rapid charging via the megawatt charging system, MCS, takes its 600 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery from 20% to 80% in about 25 minutes. With fast, reliable charging and high efficiency, the eActros 600 suits the pace of Formula One logistics and other demanding heavy-duty transport applications, proving how electric haulage can deliver performance, reliability and lower emissions on continental routes.
