Bentayga Speed Sets Record at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Bentley has confirmed the Bentayga Speed as its most potent and dynamic SUV yet, following a record-breaking performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In challenging, partially wet conditions ahead of the 2025 event’s opening, the 650 PS Bentayga Speed completed the iconic hill climb in just 55.8 seconds. This time officially marks it as the fastest internal combustion engine (ICE) production SUV ever to take on the Goodwood hill. The run beat the previous Bentayga Speed’s dry-weather time by nearly a full second and outpaced every other ICE production SUV to have attempted the course. Only the specially modified Pikes Peak Bentayga – also a Bentley – has gone faster among petrol-powered SUVs.
Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, the Bentayga Speed delivers 650 PS and 850 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 193 mph (310 km/h). The SUV’s advanced chassis dynamics include a refined SPORT mode and a new ESC Dynamic setting, offering drivers the choice between supreme grip and the controlled ability to power-slide. Bentley’s own vehicle dynamics specialist, Andy Marson, drove the Bentayga Speed during its record-setting run, reaching speeds of up to 130 mph before braking into Molecomb.
This updated V8 engine not only outperforms the previous W12 model but also delivers a more engaging driving experience. The standard sports exhaust system emits a deep, assertive tone that mirrors the engine’s eager character. Twin elliptical tailpipes emerge from the rear diffuser, while an optional Titanium Akrapovic Exhaust amplifies the V8’s presence further, using quad tailpipes to unleash an even more thrilling soundtrack.
Drivers can switch between three modes: COMFORT and BENTLEY, which preserve the model’s luxurious everyday versatility, and the significantly enhanced SPORT mode. This setting sharpens steering, increases roadholding and boosts responsiveness, supported by a 15% stiffer suspension. The result is heightened driver feedback and greater agility through corners, complemented by brake torque vectoring that improves turn-in precision and power delivery on exit.
To push the limits of performance even further, carbon ceramic brakes can be specified. These brakes unlock ESC Dynamic mode, which relaxes electronic stability control to allow controlled drifting or power-on oversteer. Launch Control – a first for the Bentayga – also features here, enabling maximum traction from a standstill. Torque vectoring ensures sharper handling and greater control, helping the driver make full use of the SUV’s formidable power.
New all-wheel steering enhances agility and stability. At lower speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite to the fronts for tighter manoeuvres and quicker directional changes, reducing the turning circle. At higher speeds, the rear wheels align with the front wheels, improving stability and high-speed cornering confidence.
Together, these features redefine what a luxury SUV can do. The Bentayga Speed’s SPORT enhancements, carbon ceramic brakes, dynamic ESC calibration and all-wheel steering create an unmatched blend of speed, control and engagement. As Bentley’s performance flagship, it raises the bar for dynamic capability in its class.
Visually, the Bentayga Speed stands apart with dark tint brightware, chrome Speed badges on the front doors, and 22-inch Speed wheels available in dark tint or silver. Darkened Speed-specific headlamp internals and grey tail lamps with dark bezels add to the distinctive look. For the first time, an optional 23-inch Speed wheel can be specified alongside the carbon ceramic brake package, offered in grey satin, black, or black and bright machined finishes. Painted callipers in seven vivid colours are available with both standard and ceramic braking systems, offering further personalisation to match the SUV’s striking performance.
