BYD Extends Blade Battery Warranty to Eight Years in Europe
BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles, has strengthened its commitment to customers in Europe by extending the warranty on its cars’ Blade Batteries to eight years or 250,000km. BYD applies this change to both existing vehicles and new purchases.
Blade Battery technology sits at the heart of all BYD New Energy Vehicles, including pure-electric and Super Hybrid models. These vehicles already include a basic coverage warranty of six years or 150,000km. They also include a 12-year, unlimited-mileage anti-perforation warranty and an 8-year, 150,000 km cover for the electric drive unit.
BYD has now increased the mileage limit on the Blade Battery warranty to 250,000km. BYD keeps the duration of cover at eight years and guarantees a minimum State of Health (SOH) of 70%. This mileage increase aims to strengthen user confidence in New Energy Vehicles. It applies to new cars and to all existing BYD models. Existing European owners* with a BYD EV or Super Hybrid will automatically benefit from the expanded coverage.

The Blade Battery combines an innovative design, high-strength materials and advanced energy-management systems. This approach delivers a unique balance of safety, efficiency and durability.
BYD makes the Blade Battery using lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. This technology offers greater safety, durability and sustainability. It also removes reliance on valuable materials such as nickel and cobalt and helps reduce environmental impact.
After intensive load and endurance testing, the Blade Battery has proven that it exceeds 3,000 charge and discharge cycles. It delivers a service life equivalent to 1.2 million kilometres.
The Blade Battery has also delivered outstanding results in extreme safety evaluations, including the nail-penetration test. In this test, the surface temperature remains below 60°C, which is 10 times lower than that of a conventional battery. It has also shown exceptional resistance in overcharge tests of up to 260% and oven tests at temperatures above 300°C. It has also performed strongly in crushing tests, saltwater immersion tests, and drop tests from significant heights, and it has exceeded international safety standards.
The blade-shaped design allows each cell to function as a transverse structural element. This design increases overall torsional rigidity and provides exceptional protection against impacts and deformation. BYD integrates each compact, lightweight cell into a module that reduces occupied volume by 50% compared with traditional batteries. This design helps designers maximise interior space and optimise vehicle packaging.
These innovations allow the Blade Battery to set a new standard in safety, reliability and performance. It delivers significant driving ranges, such as 570km in the combined cycle for the BYD SEAL Design. It also supports high charging speeds, such as those of the BYD SEALION 7 Excellence AWD, which has a maximum DC charging power of 230 kW and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
This warranty applies within the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
