Caterham Project V Prototype Debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon
Caterham will unveil its first working prototype of Project V at the Tokyo Auto Salon on 9 January 2026, marking a significant step towards a production-ready electric sports car. The brand will display the prototype alongside exhibits from development partners Yamaha Motor and XING Mobility, and it will use the vehicle for rigorous testing and evaluation as it progresses towards full-scale production.
Caterham assembled the prototype at its Tokyo R&D facility in Japan and has already begun initial powertrain evaluation of the Yamaha Motor e-axle. The team is also carrying out chassis durability work to validate performance, robustness, and real-world usability as development gathers pace.
The prototype will also drive further validation of the CTP battery system, which immerses its cells in a dielectric liquid to deliver optimum cooling through rapid, uniform heat dissipation. This approach boosts thermal stability and supports strong energy density, safety, and performance, helping Caterham refine its electric vehicle technology for consistent output and control.
In a separate showcase with XING Mobility, Caterham will bring the original Project V EV sports coupé concept show car to the United States for its debut at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on 6 January 2026, extending awareness of the Project V electric coupé ahead of the prototype’s Tokyo appearance.
Kazuho Takahashi, CEO of Caterham Cars, said: “This is a significant milestone in the development of Project V, with our prototype making its public debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon. This next step enables us to begin a comprehensive vehicle testing program in collaboration with our technical partners. Our objective remains unchanged: to realise our vision of a pure electric sports car that embodies the unmistakable DNA of a Caterham.”
