Experience the Revived 1980s Spirit with the Exclusive Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition

Mercedes-Benz now thrills G-Class aficionados with an ultra-exclusive, strictly limited-edition series: the G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s. This exceptional model meets the surging demand sparked by the 500,000th G-Class rolling off the production line in 2023. Combining iconic historic paint colours and design elements from the celebrated 280 GE rekindles the enchantment of the G-Class’s pioneering days. This edition honours the original W 460 series, which captivated motoring enthusiasts in the 1980s by delivering unparalleled performance on and off the road, and establishing the “Geländewagen” as a motoring legend—limited to just 460 units, the G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s is a highly coveted collector’s piece for G-Class purists seeking something unique.

Offered as either a G 450 d (fuel consumption combined: 9.9–8.7 l/100 km | CO₂ emissions combined: 261–227 g/km | CO₂ class: G) or a G 500 (fuel consumption combined: 12.3–10.9 l/100 km | CO₂ emissions combined: 281–248 g/km | CO₂ class: G), the model fuses cutting-edge technology and comfort with a classic 1980s aesthetic. Buyers can select from two nostalgic paint finishes, both among the G-Class’s earliest colour options and deeply connected to its iconic status:

  • MANUFAKTUR agave green solid: This earthy, green hue exudes a rugged, nature-focused aura, highlighting the G-Class’s formidable off-road prowess.

  • MANUFAKTUR Colorado beige solid: A warm, sandy shade evoking adventure and freedom, this paint underlines the G-Class’s versatile character in the 1980s.

Reflecting its retro heritage, the edition’s turn signal indicators sport the classic orange of the era. To reinforce the vintage look, the front end, radiator grille, bumpers, flared wheel arches, and exterior mirror housings are finished in night black magno, mirroring the first G-Class’s robust styling. The technical underbody protection is rendered in black, and traditional 5-spoke light-alloy wheels underscore its timeless appeal. On the bonnet, the Mercedes star adopts the historic emblem design, featuring the Mercedes-Benz name and laurel wreath against a blue background. At the rear, the door is adorned with an original 1980s silver brand badge with black “Mercedes-Benz” lettering and an edition-specific spare wheel cover.

Select features from the PROFESSIONAL Line Exterior deliver a bold off-road aesthetic, including front and rear PROFESSIONAL mud flaps, PROFESSIONAL protective headlamp grilles for the darkened headlights, and all-terrain tyres. The PROFESSIONAL roof luggage rack is available as an optional extra. The special model also includes the MANUFAKTUR logo package in black, comprising a black door knob with embossed branding and a logo projector in the exterior mirror that illuminates “G – STRONGER THAN TIME” on the ground when entering or exiting.

Inside, the G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s continues to celebrate its heritage. The centre panels of the black leather seats showcase dove grey fabric, a much-loved material from the G-Class’s early years. The passenger grab handle bears the “STRONGER THAN THE 1980s” inscription, and the front door sill panels display a map of Schöckl mountain near Graz, where the G-Class has showcased its unrivalled off-road capabilities since 1979. A traditional “Schöckl Proved” badge, styled in classic 1980s fashion, sits at the base of the B-pillar, depicting a historical G-model in the relevant vehicle colour. Each vehicle also features a “1 of 460” inscription on the centre console, underscoring the edition’s exclusivity. Further interior highlights include a multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather, a glass sliding sunroof, and a Burmester® 3d surround sound system.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s is now available to order, with prices starting from £152,815 OTR. This release promises discerning enthusiasts an extraordinary collector’s item that seamlessly blends 1980s nostalgia with cutting-edge refinement.
