Honda Super-N Prototype: Compact Electric Car for 2026
Honda has unveiled a new compact electric vehicle, the Super-N Prototype, at the Japan Mobility Show, ahead of its launch in select global markets, including the United Kingdom, from 2026. This next-generation Honda EV targets drivers who want a compact electric car that combines urban practicality with a distinctive, performance-focused design.
Honda bases the Super-N Prototype on the lightest platform in its N Series Kei car range for Japan and adapts it for international appeal as a compact all-electric model. Earlier this year, Honda showcased the concept as the Super EV Concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, highlighting its striking exterior, which features a wide stance, pronounced blister bumpers, and bold aero ducts that signal its agile character on the road.
Inside the Super-N Prototype, the cabin continues the sporty theme with blue-accented asymmetrical seats and a clean, horizontal instrument panel that creates a sense of width and focus. The layout enhances forward visibility and positions key controls intuitively, allowing drivers to anticipate responsive handling and confident, precise control that suits both everyday city driving and weekend escapes.
Honda equips the Super-N Prototype with a new BOOST mode that elevates this compact EV beyond typical small electric cars. BOOST mode increases vehicle output to maximise performance and, with Active Sound Control, simulates a multi-gear shift to heighten driver involvement. Dedicated interior displays and synchronised lighting sequences work together to deliver an engaging sense of acceleration and excitement that feels unique among vehicles of this size.
Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile, Honda UK, said: “The Super-N Prototype promises to offer a great entry point to Honda EV ownership when it arrives in our market next year, building on the excitement we saw for the concept model at Goodwood this summer. By bringing Honda’s trademark ‘fun-to-drive’ performance to a compact all-electric model, we believe this is a unique proposition, and we are excited for people to experience it from 2026.”
Honda currently focuses on introducing the Super-N Prototype to Great Britain and selected other markets, and does not commit to immediate wider European availability. However, the brand will closely monitor demand for this compact electric car, using the model’s success to gauge appetite for future small EVs across the region and to shape its broader Honda electric vehicle strategy.
