Mclaren Marks Le Mans Return With GT3 EVO Challenge
McLaren will contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, three decades after the McLaren F1 GTR’s stunning debut triumph. In 1995, the #59 car led a quartet of F1 GTRs that filled four of the top five places, etching McLaren’s name into endurance-racing folklore.
For the 2025 season, McLaren’s racing partner, United Autosports, will campaign two McLaren GT3 EVO machines. Grégoire Saucy, James Cottingham and Sébastien Baud will carry the revered #59, while Darren Leung, Marino Sato and Sean Gelael will share the #95 entry. McLaren’s GT3 EVO first raced at Le Mans in 2024 and captured class pole; United Autosports now aims to repeat that feat, score valuable points and strengthen its push for the 2025 World Endurance Championship LMGT3 crown.
McLaren has deepened its commitment to endurance racing by confirming a Hypercar programme for 2027, underscoring a long-term plan to fight for outright honours at Le Mans and throughout the WEC calendar.
On 18 June 1995 JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya steered the #59 F1 GTR to victory in the world’s most famous 24-hour race, crowning a debut that completed McLaren’s unique Triple Crown—wins at Le Mans, the Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix—an achievement no other team has matched.
