Longbow Speedster: Featherweight Electric Driver’s Car

Longbow, the pioneering British electric sports car company, has revealed the Aesthetic Dynamic Demonstrator of its first Featherweight Electric Vehicle, the Speedster, and has progressed from sketch to road in just six months, embodying its guiding motto, ‘Speed of Lightness’. The company marked this achievement with its customers, known as Guild members, alongside VIPs and key collaborators in London, underscoring its commitment to a new generation of lightweight British electric sportscars that place the driver at the centre of the experience.

Longbow has designed and built the Speedster from a clean sheet as a definitive driver’s car, combining lightweight construction with accessible, usable performance to create an engaging all-electric sports car for real-world roads. By weighing in at under 1,000 kg, the Speedster firmly establishes the new Featherweight Electric Vehicle category. It showcases how a focused British electric sports car can deliver precision handling, rapid acceleration, and an authentic connection between the driver, the vehicle, and the road.

The Speed of Lightness philosophy captures both Longbow’s character and its development approach. The founders have applied more than 15 years of experience at the forefront of the electric vehicle sector to compress and refine the traditional automotive development cycle, proving that a dedicated team can deliver a fully functioning electric sports car in a fraction of the usual time. Where many established OEMs might take around 18 months to achieve comparable progress, Longbow has completed the process in roughly one-third of that period by enhancing, integrating, and accelerating every stage without cutting corners.

Longbow has met every critical programme milestone within this condensed timeframe, keeping the first customer deliveries on course for 2026. The company will design, engineer, and hand-build all Longbow models in the United Kingdom, reinforcing its identity as a British electric sports car manufacturer and providing customers with a clear and tangible link between craftsmanship, engineering excellence, and national heritage.

With Speedster, Longbow addresses the growing demand from enthusiasts for featherweight electric sports cars that feel intimate, responsive, and attainable. The car targets drivers who value involvement and the journeys they choose, while offering a modern spiritual successor to celebrated British icons such as the Lotus Elise and Jaguar E-Type. Through its first model, Longbow unites elegant design, lightweight engineering, proven electric vehicle technology, and meticulous hand-finishing to create an FEV that feels both timeless and contemporary.

The Speedster’s design language focuses on duality, expressed most clearly in its distinctive two-tone paintwork. The front profile evokes the nostalgia and enduring appeal of classic British sports cars, while the rear communicates the advanced electric platform that will underpin Longbow’s first two models. This visual balance between heritage and innovation reinforces the Speedster’s role as a modern British electric sports car that respects tradition while pushing into a new category.

Engineers have developed a bespoke Longbow aluminium chassis that maximises stiffness and minimises mass, pairing it with a compact electric motor and advanced module-to-chassis battery integration. This combination enables the Speedster to claim its status as the world’s first featherweight all-electric sports carr for modern enthusiasts, delivering immediate response, agile dynamic,s and confident range without excess weight.

Speedster provides an open-topped driving experience that feels immersive and precise, with a kerb weight of just 895 kg and a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds. The car offers a WLTP range of 275 miles and a starting price of £84,995 including VAT. Longbow will follow the Speedster with the closed-top Roadster, which will start from £64,995 including VAT, extending the featherweight electric vehicle lineup while retaining the same focus on purity, engagement and British engineering. Customers can now place reservations for both the Speedster and Roadster.

Daniel Davey, Co-Founder and CEO at Longbow, concludes: “Speedster seems to have struck a chord with enthusiasts. It’s a timeless blueprint with a twist, which was exactly what the market was missing. Inviting customers to this unveiling was our way of saying thank you. We’re a new company with a new product. Seeing their faith and passion for the vehicle we have built is a special feeling. While Speedster defies convention, so too has our journey to get here - we’ve managed to deliver a Dynamic Demonstrator in just six months. No truer illustration of our Speed of Lightness approach.”
