Lotus Emeya Sets New Benchmark for Ultra-Fast EV Charging
Lotus has announced that the Emeya has set a new record as one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles (EVs) on the public charging network. This electric hyper-GT from Lotus showcases how quickly a modern performance EV can charge in real-world conditions on public DC chargers.
Lotus Al Ghanim, the official Lotus dealer in Kuwait, conducted the test independently and used Lotus’ ultra-fast 450 kW DC charger. Emeya maximised the charger's capacity, reaching a peak charging power of 443 kW, enabling it to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 13 minutes and 35 seconds. Drivers benefit directly from this ultra-fast EV charging performance, especially on long-distance journeys.
The team achieved this result under extreme heat conditions in the region, highlighting the durability, reliability, and efficiency of both the electric car and the charging hardware. Even in extreme temperatures, the Emeya maintained strong charging speeds, giving drivers greater confidence when relying on public fast-charging infrastructure.
Lotus continues to futureproof its electric cars so that, as the charging infrastructure develops, drivers can stay confident that their vehicles will remain highly efficient and capable. The brand designs its latest electric vehicles to work with today’s rapid chargers while preparing for tomorrow’s even more powerful public charging solutions.
Emeya features a cell-to-pack battery structure, allowing engineers to pack 20 per cent more cells in the same space as a standard module architecture. This design improves energy density and extends the range without increasing the battery pack's physical footprint. The car also uses a new cooling system architecture that improves the battery's thermal performance and efficiency, helping the EV maintain high charging speeds repeatedly and safely.
The car includes a state-of-the-art 800-volt charging system that delivers rapid charging and greater efficiency for drivers, regardless of the charger they use. This advanced 800-volt technology is also featured in the Lotus Eletre, the company’s electric hyper-SUV, so more Lotus EV owners can enjoy shorter charging stops and firmer performance.
Lotus wants to make owning an EV easier than ever by giving drivers the confidence to complete long-distance journeys and travel wherever they need to go. With a WLTC energy consumption figure down to 18.7 kWh/100 km, Emeya delivers up to 310 km of range in 10 minutes¹. Additionally, the Emeya 2026 model year features a WLTP range of up to 379 miles (610 km)1, making it a compelling choice for drivers who want a high-performance electric car with genuine touring capability.
Lotus is delivering a fully integrated charging ecosystem to support this new generation of electric vehicles. The brand creates a seamless charging experience with the Lotus Cars app and Lotus HyperOS, the award-winning in-car infotainment system in the Eletre and Emeya2. The system uses intelligent EV routing to help drivers locate nearby public chargers and plan efficient charging stops. This feature reduces range anxiety, can significantly cut travel times and allows drivers to optimise every journey in their Lotus EV.
The system can also suggest alternative routes based on the driver’s real-time battery consumption, traffic conditions and available charging points, all working together to deliver an optimised Lotus EV driving experience. By combining live data with thoughtful route planning, Lotus helps drivers get the best from ultra-fast charging and the car’s available range.
Lotus has begun rolling out its ultra-fast 450 kW DC charger in Europe, starting in Germany, and will expand the network to other European markets in the near future. As this public fast charging network grows, more drivers will experience the full potential of the Emeya and other Lotus electric vehicles on everyday routes and long-distance trips.
Emeya is Lotus’ first electric hyper-GT and sets a new benchmark for how a Lotus drives and feels by combining the company’s 75-year engineering and design expertise with the latest innovations, delivering an electric car that feels exciting to drive and performs exceptionally. This combination of ultra-fast charging, long range and engaging dynamics positions the Lotus Emeya as a standout choice in the high-performance electric car market.
