Maserati MCXtrema Returns to Spa-Francorchamps in Style
Maserati’s MCXtrema returned to the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, where it took centre stage at July’s 2025 CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa and evoked the glory of the MC12. The comeback formed part of the Maserati International Rally 2025, an annual gathering that unites enthusiasts of the brand from around the world.
Between 10 and 13 September, an extraordinary convoy of 100 Maserati models from every era threaded through Ardennes countryside roads and the epic Spa-Francorchamps track, widely regarded as the ultimate “university” of motorsport. The MCXtrema ran in the same livery it showcased a few months earlier when it attacked Eau Rouge and Raidillon as the official Leading Car of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.
The celebratory livery paid explicit homage to the MC12 while marking the 20th anniversary of its first Spa triumph in 2005, achieved by the Vitaphone team with Michael Bartels, Timo Scheider, and Eric van de Poele. Maserati then added further 24 Hours of Spa victories in 2006 with Michael Bartels, Andrea Bertolini, and Eric van de Poele, and in 2008 with Michael Bartels, Andrea Bertolini, Stéphane Sarrazin, and Eric van de Poele.
An elegant black-and-blue contrast recalled the iconic colours of the multi-title-winning MC12 GT1 fielded by Vitaphone Racing, a car that claimed three wins and two runner-up finishes at Spa. Personalised details included a striking Trident on the bonnet and dynamic blue-on-black lettering along the doors and rear quarters. The typography referenced Maserati’s most iconic models, legendary drivers, and the international circuits where the Modena manufacturer has triumphed.
From 10 September to 13, 2025, the Belgian Ardennes hosted a celebration of Maserati cars of all eras. In the historic town of Durbuy, situated along the River Ourthe and often described as the smallest city in the world, enthusiasts gathered for a spectacular rally featuring exhilarating track sessions, convivial gatherings, and a renowned parade along scenic roads, with Spa as a highlight stop. The programme championed the values of performance, innovation, and audacity that have defined nearly a century of Maserati's racing history. In 1926, the Tipo 26, the first car to wear the Trident on its bonnet, won the Targa Florio with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel.
The 2025 edition reached its peak on Thursday, 11 September, with a whole day devoted to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, where MCXtrema took centre stage in its natural habitat: the track. At midday, the circuit hosted the spectacular Maserati Parade, as historic icons and contemporary models shared the spotlight in a breathtaking display.
At the Maserati International Rally 2025, the MCXtrema, in its commemorative livery, rekindled the spirit of the legendary MC12 and reaffirmed Maserati’s enduring racing heritage at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
