McLaren Le Mans Hypercar Debuts Heritage Livery at Monterey
McLaren unveiled the Le Mans Hypercar in a new livery at a private Monterey Car Week event for depositors and prospective buyers in the highly exclusive Project: Endurance customer car programme. McLaren Group Holdings CEO Nick Collins and McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown presented the car, and Justin Bell, third-place overall finisher at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans in the #51 McLaren F1 GTR, hosted the gathering for guests.
McLaren first revealed the Hypercar at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and will launch it competitively in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship as the team pursues the Triple Crown* of motorsport in a single season. The programme signals McLaren’s intent to return to the front of endurance racing while connecting the Le Mans Hypercar to the brand’s broader WEC campaign.
The new livery draws inspiration from the first of McLaren’s Triple Crown successes, when the McLaren M16, driven by Texan Johnny Rutherford, won the 1974 Indianapolis 500. The body colour switches to McLaren Orange with a dark blue centre stripe that references the Texas flag, and the cockpit roof features the lone white star from Rutherford’s helmet. The livery also carries Lone Star JR’s race number 3 alongside McLaren’s Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark logos, blending motorsport heritage with the modern Hypercar silhouette.
Project: Endurance gives owners the chance to secure an authentic Le Mans Hypercar and to join an elite motorsport development and testing programme at its core. The experience includes full behind-the-scenes access to the upcoming McLaren United AS WEC campaign, time with key team personnel and drivers, and a comprehensive track driving programme at world-famous race circuits.
“There is a huge level of excitement for Project: Endurance around the globe with customers and fans. The opportunity to be one of only a few to own this Le Mans Hypercar and be directly involved in the development and testing program is a very special proposition. We’re looking forward to showcasing Project: Endurance, with a livery tied specifically to our motorsports heritage in the US, to America’s customers and prospects throughout August.” Nick Collins, CEO, McLaren Group Holdings
As part of the Project: Endurance ownership experience, customers receive a two-year McLaren customer track programme that includes some of the world’s best race circuits. Each owner gets driver coaching from a racing professional, supported by a dedicated pit crew and race engineers, creating a clear pathway to master the hypercar and push personal limits at the pinnacle of sports car racing.
