R33 Stradale: Handbuilt Tribute to the Alfa Tipo 33 Reimagined

PPW Automotive reveals the hand-built R33 Stradale, a modern masterpiece that reimagines the 1967 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale for contemporary roads. The British coachbuilder will create only 33 individually numbered cars, each uniting lightweight aluminium bodywork, cutting-edge engineering and traditional craftsmanship to honour one of history’s most beautiful sports cars.

Master panel beaters shape every aluminium panel over bespoke bucks, achieving concours-level fit and faithful proportions. A steel spaceframe mirrors the original dimensions while discreetly adding modern safety. Dramatic forward-hinged “butterfly” doors and a lustrous Rosso Corsa finish arrest attention wherever the R33 Stradale appears.

Beneath the rear clamshell, a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre Ferrari/Maserati-derived V8 delivers just under 400 bhp through a six-speed manual gearbox. PPW rejects electronic filters, so drivers enjoy unassisted steering, brakes free from servo assistance and no ABS or traction control, experiencing “an authentic vintage racing feel” on present-day tarmac.

Modern reliability underpins this purist brief. Twin baffled aluminium tanks guarantee steady fuel delivery, Wilwood brakes supply fade-free stopping power, and adjustable GAZ dampers let owners fine-tune handling for road or circuit. A hydraulic clutch complements the unassisted brakes, while full UK IVA certification confirms current safety and emissions compliance.

Inside, full leather and Alcantara upholstery blend race-car minimalism with touring comfort. Owners commission each cabin to taste, from Connolly hides to fitted luggage, ensuring every R33 Stradale reflects its custodian’s style. Paint-to-sample options extend that personalisation, so no two cars will ever look identical.

After five years’ development, the first production car will headline Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace from 27–31 August 2025, followed by the Hampton Court Palace Concours of Elegance and Goodwood Revival in September. These outings will allow enthusiasts to admire the car’s artistry and discuss build slots directly with the PPW team.

PPW now accepts commissions, with prices from £540,000 plus taxes. Given the car’s exclusivity, handcrafted nature, and the passion poured into every detail, demand will outstrip supply. Collectors seeking a hand-built sports car that bridges the past and present should enquire without delay.
