Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept Leads Electric Adventure

Renault premiered the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept on 19 May at its Roland-Garros French Open stand, reviving the Savane name—synonymous with exploration since the 1950s—for a modern electric ‘gentleman explorer’. Engineers raised ground clearance by 15 millimetres over the standard Renault 4 E-Tech electric, fitted 18-inch Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ 225/55 tyres on bespoke ‘Savane’ wheels, and widened each track by 10 millimetres. A second electric motor on the rear axle delivers always-on all-wheel drive, so the compact EV tackles mud, snow and rough trails with ease and showcases the AmpR Small platform’s ability to support B-segment four-wheel-drive electric cars.

The Jade Green bodywork pairs with gloss-black bumpers and wheel arches, while a pixel-patterned fabric roof camouflages the silhouette. Designers replaced conventional bumper stops with 3D-printed shock-absorbing modules, added a side ‘4Savane’ logo, and marked the tailgate ‘4x4’. Inside, Deep Brown TEP upholstery wraps the seats and dashboard. Quilted tonal number 4s crown each backrest, a houndstooth motif reinforces the side bolsters, and a back-lit 4Savane signature spans the dash.

“True to the spirit of exploration of the Renault 4 Savane from the 1960s, the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept show car pushes the adventurous side of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric to the maximum. Its increased ground clearance and widened tracks are combined with a permanently active all-wheel drive system to allow it to tackle the most rugged terrains. It’s unique Jade Green colour combined with Glossy Black elements and the Deep Brown interior adds a chic spirit worthy of 'gentlemen explorers' eager for limitless journeys.”

Roland-Garros also hosts the public debut of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, an electric ‘mini-supercar’ wearing black, yellow and white livery inspired by the 1982 Tour of Corsica-winning Renault 5 Turbo. Its 800-volt architecture and 555-horsepower in-wheel motors fuse motorsport heritage with cutting-edge EV innovation. Orders opened on 22 April, and more than 500 customers and 200 dealers have already reserved one of the 1,980 cars, each provisionally priced at €160,000.

Renault places the new Renault 5 E-Tech electric Roland-Garros special series centre stage. The elegant, sporty hatchback honours the tennis Grand Slam with Saint Andrew’s Cross motifs, light-grey recycled upholstery, a clay-hued wireless-charging mat and a 52 kWh battery that delivers up to 250 miles of zero-emission range.

To shrink the tournament’s carbon footprint, Renault supplies 187 electrified vehicles—87 per cent of the fleet—including Scenic E-Tech electric, Rafale and Espace full hybrids, the debuting Renault 4 E-Tech electric, and the 5 E-Tech electric Roland-Garros edition. The brand also continues open-road trials of autonomous mobility, running two WeRide electric shuttles between Porte d’Auteuil and the Roland-Garros village for spectators.

French number two Ugo Humbert becomes the new face of ‘La Lignée Renault’ and joins the ‘Give Me 5’ programme. The programme renovates community tennis courts with ambassadors Casper Ruud, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Diede de Groot, and Luca Van Assche to broaden young people’s access to sport and sustainable mobility.
