SENSING CORE Proves Tyre-safety Tech in 2025 NLS Season
Sumitomo Rubber Industries tested SENSING CORE, its sensorless tyre technology, throughout the 2025 Nürburgring Endurance Series on both Falken Porsche 911 GT3 R cars. The system faced harsh motorsport conditions and demonstrated clear potential to improve safety, increase efficiency, and optimise pit-stop timing throughout the NLS season at the Nürburgring.
SENSING CORE treats the tyre as the sensor and delivers continuous, real-time insights into tyre wear, road surface, wheel load and pressure without extra hardware. The technology also detects loose wheel nuts, which directly improves vehicle safety in racing and on the road. When teams network data through the cloud, they can quickly share track and road condition information, benefiting passenger car use and motorsport operations alike.
Across every NLS round in 2025, engineers used SENSING CORE to monitor tyre pressures and spot deflation on the Nordschleife. The system issued several alerts before traditional sensors, allowing the team to pit earlier, protect the Falken Porsche race cars, and adjust race strategy with confidence. The tests proved the reliability of this tyre-monitoring system under extreme stress and variable weather at the Green Hell.
With the technology validated in competition, Sumitomo Rubber Industries strengthens its commitment to safer, more efficient and more sustainable mobility. The company now aims to extend SENSING CORE to wider applications, including autonomous fleets, where accurate tyre data and predictive safety features can reduce risks and improve operational efficiency.
