Twisted Range Rover Classic Redefines British 4x4s

Twisted Automotive, the world-renowned specialist in re-engineering iconic British 4x4s, has unveiled its first Range Rover project: the Twisted Range Rover Classic, or TRRC. After 25 years of refining the Defender, Twisted has brought its anti-ordinary approach to the two-door Range Rover Classic.

Twisted built the TRRC around deep personal nostalgia. For founder Charles Fawcett, the Range Rover Classic was the "king of the road" in his childhood.

“When I think back to the 1980’s, my father always seemed to have a two-door Range Rover, and there was one particular one that stood out," says Fawcett. "It was terracotta brown with fibreglass extended wheel arches and white Weller eight-spoke wheels shod with General Grabber road-oriented tyres. On the front, he’d fabricated a valance out of an MGB GT front spoiler. To me, it was just iconic. Today, the TRRC exists out of unapologetic nostalgia, recreating something I remember from when I was a tiny boy. I think many customers will relate to that feeling.”

At the heart of this Range Rover Classic restomod sits a high-performance LT1 V8 conversion that delivers 500hp. An eight-speed automatic transmission channels that power. Twisted drew on two decades of engineering experience from its Defender programme to make the most of the drivetrain.

The TRRC delivers performance and communication similar to Twisted’s T90 and T110, but Twisted tuned the handling to suit the Range Rover’s distinct character. "We spent an age tweaking the bushings so that you got something that was sharp and super drivable but not too harsh," explains Fawcett. "A Range Rover needs to be supple.”

Twisted has stayed true to its design ethos, with a carefully curated blend of the best of the Range Rover Classic eras. The TRRC combines a 1970s front bumper with a 1990s-style grille and headlight surrounds. British engineering excellence shapes every detail. Twisted has designed bespoke tooling to create new hammer-formed aluminium panels for every exterior surface. The team also maintains obsessively tight panel gaps across the vehicle.

Twisted has also introduced a series of bespoke design features. Customers can choose a body-coloured C-pillar instead of the traditional floating roof effect to highlight the two-door silhouette. Twisted has set the front end slightly lower to complement the Classic’s profile. The final production design will also include details such as vents formed into the C-pillar panel.

Twisted has completely re-engineered the interior. The team has mounted the seats lower than the originals, so the driver looks through the upper half of the windscreen and makes the most of the vehicle’s famous all-round visibility.

Twisted also honours the exposed metalwork of early Range Rovers with a meticulous cabin detail. The company installs soundproofing on the underside of the carpet rather than on the interior shell. This small but exacting choice lets owners lift the carpet and view the pristine paintwork. They can also leave the rear inner arches uncovered to appreciate the metalwork fully.

Twisted prices the TRRC from £350,000 and will ship each vehicle worldwide. The company puts every vehicle through a rigorous 500-mile validation programme before delivery.

Twisted will hand-build up to 12 TRRCs each year. “All of our 2026 build slots are already taken, and 2027 is looking over-subscribed,” says Fawcett. “The Range Rover Classic is a British icon. It’s not for everyone, and that’s the point. As with all Twisted products, not everyone will want one, and of those that do, not everyone will get one.”

Twisted sources each donor vehicle from a 1990 to 1992 Range Rover Classic two-door that meets its criteria, with left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive options available. The driveline includes a TV8 6.2-litre petrol automatic engine producing 500bhp, an eight-speed automatic transmission, progressive suspension and bushing upgrades, upgraded differentials, and a Twisted braking system with six-pot front and four-pot rear callipers.

Twisted strips, blasts, and e-coats the chassis and axle casings in a protective satin black finish. The company also carries out a full body-off, panel-by-panel restoration of the bodyshell. Each bespoke SUV receives a complete set of new British hand-formed body panels unique to Twisted, including front and rear rolled arches, colour-coded C-pillars, and a front splitter with high-output driving lights.

Inside, Twisted adds full cabin sealing and soundproofing, premium extended carpeting, leather trim across all interior surfaces, heated front seats, an eight-channel discreet audio system, and a single-DIN infotainment system.
