Record $5.2m: 2005 Maserati MC12 Stradale at Monterey Car Week
Maserati has written a significant new chapter in collector car history as a 2005 MC12 Stradale sold for a record $5.2 million at Broad Arrow’s (a Hagerty Company) prestigious Monterey Jet Centre Auction, held during Monterey Car Week in California on 13 August.
With only 50 examples produced, 25 in 2004 and 25 in 2005, the Maserati MC12 Stradale distils extreme performance, engineering excellence and bold vision that define the Trident. The V12 engine displaces 5988 cc and delivers 630 hp at 7500 rpm. The distinctive white bodywork with blue accents pays homage to the Maserati Birdcage Type 61, built between 1959 and 1961. The road car has matured into a coveted V12 supercar that continues to win the hearts of enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, even 20 years after its debut.
The auction result exceeds the previous model record by 37 per cent and confirms this MC12 as the most expensive modern Maserati ever sold. The price underlines the timeless value of a car that defined an era.
Maserati developed the MC12 Stradale as the road-legal counterpart to the MC12 GT1, the standout of FIA GT competition from 2004 to 2010. The racing programme secured fourteen titles and 22 victories, including two Constructors’ Cups, five Drivers’ Championships, six Team Championships, and three wins in the 24 Hours of Spa. This direct link to top-tier motorsport helped forge the MC12 legend, turning it into a symbol of advanced technology, timeless design and world-class performance.
The recognition achieved at the 2025 Monterey Car Week auction reflects the model’s rising collector appeal and the growing demand for supercars that blend sporting heritage, rarity and technical innovation.
In a market that prizes authenticity and brand history, Maserati reaffirms its leadership. Current limited-run models, such as the new Maserati MCXtrema, show how the Trident remains an emblem of passion, prestige and enduring performance.
