Bentley Torcal Revealed: The First Fully Electric Bentley SUV
“For 107 years, Bentleys have been the most incredibly complete cars - effortless performance, outstanding comfort, exquisite British handcraftsmanship using the best natural materials, and a soundtrack with soul. Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters.” With these words, Bentley's Chairman and CEO, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, revealed the Bentley Torcal, one of the most significant new models in the company's long history.
The all-new Bentley Torcal is a Bentley first and foremost. Its design, technology, craftsmanship, materials and sustainability together form a template for every future Bentley, whatever sits beneath the bonnet.
Design Director Robin Page led the in-house design team at Crewe, which has created a low, sleek SUV. It introduces a bold new design language with deep roots in Bentley's DNA.
“When we design a Bentley, we consider how people naturally perceive an object. You don’t experience a car all at once. There is a hierarchy to what you see and understand, which we describe through four ‘reads’” comments Robin.
The first read is proportion. The Torcal's long wheelbase, short overhangs and proud frontal aspect give it a powerful stance and embody 'upright elegance', one of Bentley's guiding design principles. Alongside the principle of an 'endless bonnet', these elements emphasise the car's length, presence, and unmistakable Bentley character.
The second read covers the graphical elements, which establish identity and expression, especially at the front. Advanced lighting technology and a distinctive illuminated diamond grille reinterpret echoes of iconic Bentleys, most notably the Continental T. At the rear, clean and uncluttered graphics form the 'prestigious shield', a design principle Bentley first explored with the EXP 15 Concept Car.
The third read is surface language: the sculpture, the volumes and the way light plays across the car as you walk around it. The designers deliberately removed unnecessary lines, so the surfaces and proportions alone create emotion and character.
You see this most clearly in the powerful rear haunches. The cabin tapers toward the back, letting the body build up over the rear wheels. The design team calls this the 'resting beast', a sense of strength and energy held within the sculpture.
The fourth read is detail, which reveals another layer of craftsmanship as you move closer to the car. The diamond pattern runs throughout the Torcal as a recurring thread. Sometimes it appears clearly; elsewhere it becomes abstract, woven into surfaces, textures, and patterns.
The same philosophy carries through to the cabin. The Bentley wings still inspire the dashboard architecture, creating symmetry, power and balance, while bold sheer surfaces give authentic materials such as leather, wool, veneer and aluminium room to breathe.
Knurled controls and reimagined bullseye air vents celebrate Bentley's 'magical fusion' of craft and technology. The centre console and steering wheel keep their physical controls, so occupants can still touch the functions they naturally reach for.
Bentley has designed the seats from scratch and packed them with technology. The standard seats offer 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters and a new massage function.
Options include Bentley's recent and innovative Postural Adjust and Smart Seat Climate systems. These maximise comfort over long distances by continuously reshaping the seat to shift pressure subtly and adjusting heating and ventilation to keep each occupant at their chosen temperature. In the dedicated Wellness Seat Specification, the massage system now extends from the backrest into the cushion so that it can massage the legs as well as the back and shoulders.
In the rear, the three-seat bench brings a power-fold system to a Bentley for the first time.
At launch, customers can choose from five wheel designs in a range of finishes. The core car rides on 21-inch wheels as standard, while the S comes with a ten-twin-spoke 22-inch design. Three further optional 22-inch wheels are available, including one designed specifically for aerodynamics. Buyers can pick 21-inch and 22-inch tyres in summer and winter treads and compounds, and a 22-inch all-season tyre completes the range.
The Torcal is also the first Bentley to wear the brand's redesigned and modernised emblem, which Bentley revealed last year.
As the first Bentley with a fully electric powertrain, the Torcal delivers its performance in a way that owners of any era will recognise, pairing effortless power with precision. It produces up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm, the highest torque figure of any Bentley ever made. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds), yet the driving experience always feels accessible, progressive and sophisticated. The research and development team chose this level of performance deliberately, knowing that most customers find anything more extreme uncomfortable.
Two powerful permanent magnet synchronous motors drive the car. Both use a dry sump design and carry oil for life. The front motor has an open differential, while the rear motor has a locking differential with a multi-plate clutch on each output shaft.
The high-voltage battery contains 192 lithium-ion pouch cells in series. It runs at 800V nominal and offers a total net capacity of 113 kWh. Bentley covers the battery with a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Fully active suspension, a first for Bentley, works with adaptive two-valve dampers to deliver a true 'magic carpet' ride and a choice of chassis tune for each driving mode. The system can raise or lower each damper actively, independently and instantly, responding to both the road and the driver to give maximum ride comfort and body control. Because the reactive dampers provide infinitely adjustable anti-roll torque, the car needs no anti-roll bars. Electronic All Wheel Steering comes as standard and adds further agility. It turns the rear wheels by up to five degrees and cuts the turning circle to 11.1 metres.
An iron braking system provides the stopping power, with 420 mm discs at the front and 370 mm discs at the rear. Customers can upgrade to a Carbon Silicon Carbide (CSiC) ceramic system, which pairs 440 mm front discs (jointly the largest in the world, alongside other Bentleys) with 410 mm rears. Both systems come with black, red or grey callipers, and Mulliner offers three additional colours.
The Torcal handles relaxing long-distance journeys, agile and exhilarating driving and off-road terrain with equal composure. Ultimately, it matches the comfort of a Flying Spur and the dynamism of a Continental GT Speed. This broad bandwidth gives the car several characters and personalities, which drivers can reach easily through four curation modes.
At five metres long, the Torcal is the shortest four-door car in the range, yet it offers exceptional interior space. A 460-litre boot works alongside a 90-litre front storage area. The 11.1-metre turning circle makes the car highly manoeuvrable around town, while a range of up to 375 miles (600 km) makes long journeys effortless. Just as importantly, a 400 kW charger can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just under 20 minutes, adding 100 miles (161 km) of range in only seven minutes.
The latest driver assistance (ADAS) technology offers advanced driving and parking features that make every journey easier and more intuitive. A network of 25 radars, sensors and cameras gives the car all the data it needs to understand its surroundings. Because the car constantly scans its environment, it can automatically reverse to a spot it has already identified if it meets an obstacle on a narrow road, letting the other vehicle pass. Assistance systems help with towing, garage and parallel parking, and help drivers avoid kerbing their wheels. Owners can park remotely through the app and even 'train' the car to perform precise parking manoeuvres. Four radar-controlled powered doors open and close themselves, adding another layer of convenience and making every interaction with the Torcal feel effortless and considered. Passengers can close their doors by fastening their seat belts or through the main touchscreen, while the driver can press the brake pedal.
A new Frosted Diamond switchable-glass sunroof adds flexibility to the cabin, letting customers adjust the light and atmosphere in a way that feels both practical and luxurious.
From the very first 3 Litre of 1919 to the present day, the propulsive beat of a powerful engine has been a constant throughout Bentley's history. It stirs the emotions and forms an important feedback loop between driver and machine. The Torcal's development team set out to create an equally powerful connection through sound, going beyond mere electronic imitation. They found that the rhythm of a Bentley V8 lay at the heart of its appeal, so they used real instruments, including drums, viola and bass guitar, to create the Bentley Dynamic Symphony, complete with subtle variations and tiny imperfections.
From a resting pulse to full-throttle acceleration, this human-made soundtrack gives the driver aural feedback. Rather than simply imitating an engine note, it deepens the sense of connection. The rich, powerful low-frequency sound responds to torque demand and vehicle speed, which strengthens the link between what the driver hears and how the car behaves. This predictable feedback helps the driver control the car consistently and confidently. The Dynamic Symphony grows louder in Sport mode, and drivers who prefer silence can switch it off completely.
Other sounds carry the same care. For the direction indicators, Bentley recorded a hammer striking leather in its upholstery workshops. Even the touchscreen and digital assistant chime has a human touch, quite literally, as it comes from the sound of a crystal glass.
Beyond the propulsion and functional sounds, the Torcal offers two audio systems. The first is a 620W system with 16 speakers. Above that sits a 1,780W, 28-speaker package developed with Naim, adding kinaesthetic seat shakers, front headrest speakers, and Dolby Atmos 7.1.
The Torcal's drive modes reach far beyond chassis and powertrain settings. They offer a fresh take on luxury by shaping each journey around how occupants want to feel. Four Experience Modes bring together light, sound, climate, airflow and digital information in harmony to suit different moods, moments and states of mind.
Bentley Mode feels warm, dynamic and perfectly balanced, blending comfort and craftsmanship into an environment that is refined yet unmistakably focused on the driver. Comfort Mode, by contrast, creates a calmer space with minimal distraction and encourages a gentler pace. It even offers a digital detox, hiding all but the most essential information so occupants can turn their attention away from the screens.
Sport is the most dynamic of the four. The soundtrack becomes more immersive, the visual cues sharpen, and the lighting and control responses feel increasingly purposeful.
The fourth mode is Refresh. As its name suggests, it boosts fresh-air circulation and brightens the lighting, making the atmosphere lighter, cleaner and more invigorating to recharge mind and spirit.
Bentley has also focused on ergonomics and ease of use. Bentley's curved OLED screens deliver deeper blacks and richer colours, improving contrast and making every area of the screen easier to use.
Facial recognition identifies the driver and quickly loads their preferences, including seat and steering wheel position, ADAS choices and many other settings. Owners can also set up their mobile phone to work as the car's key (known as Mobile Device Key), with full functionality and access rights.
To keep the driver's eyes on the road for longer, Bentley's augmented reality head-up display projects information such as navigation instructions and on-road ADAS markers directly into the driver's line of sight, aligning them with upcoming turns or hazards.
For generations, Bentley has set the benchmark for interior craftsmanship using the finest materials. The Torcal broadens that choice with innovative materials, forward-thinking design, and meticulous attention to detail, together redefining automotive luxury.
The fashion world has long prized Merino wool for its softness, warmth and natural elegance, but until now it has lacked the durability a car interior demands. Bentley's Colour, Materials and Finish team has changed that. Working with Fox Brothers, a Somerset firm that has woven fine wool fabrics since the 18th century, the team has developed the world's first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, bringing new warmth and comfort to the cabin. It is also the first automotive wool fabric to earn certification under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).
Mulliner has created a new finish for the Torcal called Ombré Walnut. Craftspeople press together up to 1,000 individually selected layers of responsibly sourced walnut off-cuts and craft (recycled) paper, then slice the block to less than a millimetre thick. Four walnut shades flow naturally from deep black through dark smoke to light smoke, a striking expression of modern luxury rooted in traditional craftsmanship.
Another debut finish, Sunburst Aluminium by Mulliner, reimagines the engine-turned aluminium dashboards of Bentleys past. Its tactile, three-way brushed pattern shows the precision and attention to detail of Bentley craftsmanship in a fresh light.
The interior colour palette is stunning. It includes 15 shades of olive tan leather, among them the new hues of Teal, Terra and Glaze, alongside 15 matching shades of Dinamica and pure Merino wool in five colours. Six wood veneers sit alongside two technical finishes and six Piano finishes: Black, Gravity Grey, Linen, Teal, Imperial Blue and Cricket Ball.
The Bentley Torcal launches in two distinct versions: the core car and a sportier S. The core Torcal produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm of peak torque, accelerates from rest to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds) and reaches a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The S goes further, delivering 888 PS and 1,350 Nm with Launch Control active, a 2.8-second sprint to 60 mph (0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds) and a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h).
As standard, the Torcal comes with satin silver brightware, a single-tone colour split and Open Pore Crown Cut Walnut. The Torcal S matches its extra performance with a range of visual changes for a more sporting look. These include black exterior brightware and mirror caps, dark rear lamps, a rear diffuser, sports sills and front bumper strakes. Red brake callipers, S fender badges and black Bentley wings badges complete the exterior. Inside, the S has its own colour split, quilting and stitch pattern, sports pedals, Piano Black veneer as standard, illuminated treadplates and dynamic 'waterfall' mood lighting.
