BMW M Concept Neue Klasse Debuts New M Design Language

BMW M unveiled the M Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking its world premiere. The concept introduces the new BMW M design language and signals the brand's shift towards an all-electric future. In the future, the BMW M product portfolio will combine expressive design, high performance and innovative materials.

The car forges a bridge between BMW M's history and its motorsport roots. Anyone can spot it instantly as a high-performance automobile, and it stays true to the brand's guiding principle: "Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets."

"The new BMW M design language forms the expressive spearhead of the Neue Klasse – determined and purposeful," says Oliver Heilmer, Head of Design BMW Compact Class, Neue Klasse and BMW M. "At BMW M, form consistently follows function. Every detail serves performance. This project is truly special to me because it carries the BMW M character into a new era."

Powerful proportions, precise lines and a muscular shoulder section with wide wheel arches give the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse its unmistakable character. Numerous M-specific design measures optimise aerodynamics, including reinterpreted M aero exterior mirrors finished in BMW M's signature colours.

A distinctive air outlet shapes the V-shaped front bonnet and helps cool the electric drivetrain. A forward-facing shark nose and a light signature with a depth effect define the front end, where the headlights and kidney grille merge into a single unit. The new M Yellow Lights sharpen the driver's view of the road ahead. These yellow light icons appear set to become a signature feature of future BMW M automobiles, echoing those of GT racing cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8.

The front apron adopts a trimaran-style bumper, drawing inspiration from high-speed sailing boats. This three-part design reinforces the car's technical appearance and provides structural support for the front splitter, an aerodynamic element positioned at the lower edge of the front end. Three-dimensional Track Lights in the outer sections of the front apron add another new lighting accent for future BMW M models.

Track Lights and the trimaran design also shape the rear apron. The Track Lights frame the trimaran element above the floating diffuser. At the same time, a striking ducktail spoiler improves aerodynamics, boosts downforce at the rear axle and adds a bold accent to the clean rear-end surfacing.

Natural fibre elements appear throughout the exterior and interior of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, including the front splitter, the bonnet air outlet and the diffuser. For the first time, BMW M uses natural fibre not only in its pure form but also in a refined finish featuring M branding within the roof graphic. The newly developed Monza Red metallic paint finish and the red-and-blue coded centre-lock wheels strengthen the car's visual link to BMW M and motorsport.

Inside, BMW M has created a reduced, driver-focused cockpit that channels the driving experience of a next-generation all-electric BMW M. Four newly developed bucket seats deliver secure support even during highly dynamic driving and integrate structural elements made from natural-fibre materials. The seat upholstery, finished in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red two-tone Merino leather, picks up BMW M's signature colours, while red five-point belts underline the car's sporty character.

For the first time in a BMW M vehicle, designers have used high-quality black nubuck leather on the steering wheel, door panels, and roll bar. The floating dashboard features a black knit material finish with M-specific hexagonal backlighting, and red accents on the M gear selector, the shift paddles and the digital displays bring targeted sporty highlights that put performance centre stage.

The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse represents the next chapter in the M-typical blend of dynamics, agility and precision. Its innovative BMW M eDrive drive concept, powered by four electric motors and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, elevates both the driving experience and racetrack capability to a new level.

"Even in the new all-electric era, we continue the M-typical tradition of transferring both technological innovations and defining design features directly from motorsport into series production," says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH.

BMW M eDrive builds on the Neue Klasse's Gen6 technology and was developed specifically for all-electric BMW M automobiles. The drivetrain concept pairs four electric motors with the central control software BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, running on the high-performance computer Heart of Joy. Through integrated, wheel-specific control of the drivetrain and braking systems, BMW M eDrive unlocks new potential for driving dynamics and safety, delivering high recuperation performance, optimal traction right up to the limit and a particularly direct response.

The 800-volt technology and the high-voltage battery, which stores more than 100 kWh of energy, lay the groundwork for long-range capability. A BMW M-specific, optimised version of sixth-generation cylindrical cells delivers particularly high output when powering the electric motors and during charging. The high-voltage battery housing is structurally integrated with both the front and rear axles, further enhancing the car's driving dynamics.
