Porsche Cayenne Electric: A New Era For Luxury SUV
The Cayenne first allowed Porsche to transfer the legend of its sports car brand into a completely new SUV market segment, and the sporting all-rounder achieved worldwide success straight after its world premiere in September 2002. Now the new Porsche Cayenne Electric opens a fresh chapter as an all-electric luxury SUV that brings high performance, long range, and everyday usability together in one model line.
"The Cayenne Electric shows performance in a completely new dimension, with innovative technologies that we have developed in motorsport. It sets new standards in the SUV segment – in terms of driving characteristics as well as charging," says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. "Outstanding electric performance meets very real everyday usability. Excellent long-distance comfort combines with uncompromising off-road capability."
With about 36 per cent of its sports cars sold globally already electrified, Porsche ranks among the fastest-transforming car manufacturers in 2025. The Cayenne Electric marks the next milestone in this success story. It complements the existing range of combustion-engine and plug-in-hybrid Cayenne models, giving customers a completely flexible choice of Porsche powertrains in the premium SUV segment.
The all-electric Cayenne family initially comprises two models, the Cayenne Electric and the Cayenne Turbo Electric, both with All Wheel Drive and electronic Porsche Traction Management (ePTM). The Cayenne Turbo accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 7.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 162 mph. A newly developed drive system enables this powerful e-performance, delivering up to 850 kW (1,156 PS) and up to 1,500 Nm of torque when the driver activates Launch Control. The Turbo variant features direct oil cooling of the electric motor on the rear axle to maintain high continuous output and efficiency, a technology that comes from motorsport. In normal driving mode, up to 630 kW (857 PS) is available. Using the Push to Pass function, drivers can add 130 kW (176 PS) for 10 seconds at the press of a button. The entry-level Cayenne Electric model delivers 300 kW (408 PS) in regular operation and 325 kW (442 PS) with Launch Control, along with 835 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 143 mph.
The Porsche Cayenne Electric also offers leading energy recovery figures, reaching Formula E levels with up to 600 kW of recuperative power. In everyday driving, the electric motors handle about 97 per cent of braking, so the mechanical friction brakes rarely need to intervene. For the Cayenne Turbo, Porsche also offers the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) as an option for demanding situations.
The Cayenne Electric derives much of its versatility from its chassis. Porsche equips both models with adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard. The Turbo also features Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), a limited-slip rear differential. Owners can specify rear axle steering for both models, which turns the rear wheels by up to five degrees to aid agility and stability. In addition, Porsche offers Porsche Active Ride on the flagship model for the first time. Porsche first used this active suspension system on its sports saloons and now brings it to the Cayenne, where it almost completely compensates for body movements, delivering exceptional stability, dynamics and comfort.
At the heart of all-electric Porsche Cayenne models sits a newly developed 113 kWh high-voltage battery that benefits from double-sided cooling for optimal thermal management. This technology delivers WLTP ranges of up to 398 miles for the Cayenne Electric and up to 387 miles for the Turbo. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the Cayenne charges at a DC charging capacity of up to 390 kW and, under specific conditions, even up to 400 kW4. Drivers can increase the State of Charge (SoC) from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 16 minutes, and in just 10 minutes, the system adds enough energy for a range of 202 miles in the Cayenne or 196 miles in the Cayenne Turbo. During the development of the new Cayenne range, Porsche focused firmly on robust, repeatable fast-charging performance.
Porsche also introduces optional inductive charging for the Cayenne Electric, which charges at up to 11 kW. With Porsche Wireless Charging, users park over a floor plate, and charging begins automatically, adding extra convenience to everyday use of this electric SUV.
The Cayenne Electric combines the Porsche brand’s signature proportions with a clearly evolved exterior design language. "The new Cayenne is unmistakably Porsche and unmistakably Cayenne. We've built on proven design features and preserved what makes this SUV unique. The result is a modern design concept that carries the Cayenne into the future," says Michael Mauer, Head of Style Porsche. Highlights include the low bonnet and slim Matrix LED headlights that emphasise the vehicle's width and combine all lighting functions into a single module. Powerfully contoured wheel arches echo other Porsche designs, as does the classic flyline silhouette with its gently sloping roofline.
From the side, frameless doors and a striking crease in the door surface provide a distinctive look. Porsche paints the side skirts in Volcanic Grey Metallic and, on the Cayenne Turbo, in high gloss black, so the two-tone concept underlines the car’s sporting proportions. Model-specific wheel arch trims highlight the off-road character of this electric SUV. At the rear, details such as the light strip with its distinctive 3D look and animated graphics, together with the illuminated Porsche lettering, reinforce the modern design language. The Cayenne Turbo features numerous contrasting elements in the exclusive Turbonite colour, including the Porsche crests, the faces of the alloy wheels and the side window trims. At the same time, delicate Turbonite accents enhance the light strip and the Porsche script.
For customers who place particular emphasis on approach angle and off-road robustness, Porsche offers an Off-Road package. Its front section with modified geometry helps drivers navigate rough dirt roads, steep ascents and descents, and challenging terrain more safely.
A drag coefficient of 0.25 makes the new Cayenne Electric one of the most aerodynamic SUVs in its class, which benefits range and energy consumption. The Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system precisely adapts the car’s aerodynamic properties to each driving situation and speed, and an efficient control strategy contributes to both the expected driving dynamics and additional downforce. Active aerodynamic elements include movable nose cooling air flaps, an adaptive roof spoiler, and innovative active aeroblades at the rear of the Turbo. These elements extend the lateral tear-off edges and improve airflow, increasing range, particularly at higher speeds. Other aerodynamic measures include air curtains in the front bodywork, an almost completely enclosed underbody, special aero wheels and a diffuser at the rear.
The new Porsche Cayenne Electric is 55 mm longer than the combustion-engined model. The SUV is 4,985 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,674 mm high. The wheelbase now measures 3,023 mm, an increase of almost 13 cm that brings more rear legroom and comfort for passengers in the back than ever before. Porsche equips the rear seat with an electrically adjustable system as standard, offering flexible adjustment options from a comfort position to a cargo-focused one. Luggage capacity ranges from 781 to 1,588 litres, plus a 90-litre front luggage compartment, and the towing capacity underlines utility with up to 3.5 tonnes, depending on equipment.
Newly introduced Mood Modes turn the interior into an experience space that adapts to each mood and situation. Depending on the selected programme, the seating position, lighting mood, air conditioning, sound profile and display appearance all change. The sliding Panoramic Roof with Variable Light Control uses an electrically switchable liquid-crystal foil to create an airy sense of space. New panel heating not only warms the seats, but also large contact surfaces such as armrests and door panels. Extended ambient lighting, including a communication light, further enhances comfort. This animated light strip welcomes passengers as they enter the car and visualises various vehicle states, such as the charging process.
No previous Cayenne has offered such a comprehensive, individual level of customisation as the new all-electric model. Customers can choose from 13 standard colours, nine wheel designs ranging from 20 to 22 inches in diameter, 12 interior combinations, and up to five interior and accent packages. Through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, the extended Paint to Sample exterior colours and the Sonderwunsch programme, customers can tailor their Cayenne Electric to their personal wishes, from a wide range of options to a complete one-off.
Porsche has expanded the Porsche Design programme of custom-built timepieces to include the SUV model range. Cayenne customers can now order a watch from the Porsche-owned Swiss watch manufacturer that matches their vehicle down to the last detail, strengthening the link between car and timepiece.
In the field of digitalisation, the Cayenne Electric takes the driving experience in a Porsche SUV to a new level. At the heart of the newly developed Porsche Driver Experience sits the Flow Display, an elegantly curved OLED panel that blends seamlessly into the centre console and clearly separates display and control areas. A fully digital instrument cluster with 14.25-inch OLED technology and a 14.9-inch optional passenger display complements this unit. Together, they create the most extensive display area ever seen in a Porsche.
For the first time in the Cayenne, Porsche also offers a head-up display with AR technology. It visually represents a 10-metre-wide display area ahead of the vehicle, so drivers can read key information without taking their eyes off the road. All displays integrate seamlessly into the interior architecture, while buttons and controls for frequently used functions such as air conditioning and audio volume remain analogue for intuitive operation. Engineers have developed a hand rest that enables the driver to operate both digital and analogue elements ergonomically, even in particularly dynamic driving situations.
The new Porsche Digital Interaction serves as a digital operating philosophy and design language that extends the Porsche Driver Experience and prioritises individualisation and quick access to functions. Widgets provide direct access to preferred features, while the Themes app customises the colour scheme of all displays. Drivers can integrate numerous third-party apps directly into the vehicle via the Porsche App Centre, and diverse streaming and gaming features elevate the in-car digital experience. The new Voice Pilot also contributes to this. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it understands complex, interrelated queries, recognises context and responds like a real conversation partner. It enables drivers to control navigation intuitively and to access extensive online knowledge. With the Porsche Digital Key, drivers use their smartphones and smartwatches as vehicle keys and share digital access with up to 7 other users.
The new Cayenne Electric now complements the existing selection of drivetrain choices, which Porsche will continue to offer worldwide in parallel. "Inspiring customers is our top priority at Porsche. With the electrification of the Cayenne, we are reaching a new level of performance that sets standards for the future. At the same time, we will continue to develop the Cayenne with efficient combustion and hybrid drive systems well into the next decade," says Matthias Becker, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing. "This strategy also applies to Porsche's entire model portfolio: in every segment in which we are represented, customers will in future have the choice between fully electric and combustion-engine powertrains."
