BYD Unveils Next-Gen EVs and Hybrids at Auto Shanghai 2025

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, seized centre stage at Auto Shanghai 2025 and unveiled fresh technologies and striking models across its expanding portfolio for global audiences. The stand blended a groundbreaking sports-car concept with an estate powered by the latest Super DM hybrid powertrain, widening the brand’s appeal and underlining its engineering depth.

BYD again proved its dominance in new-energy powertrains by launching models that either harness plug-in Super DM hybrid technology or run exclusively on electricity, demonstrating its ability to deliver compelling vehicles for every preference. The all-new SEALION 6 DM-i and pure-electric SEALION 6 EV reimagine the mid-size SUV, each wearing the Ocean Aesthetics design language. The vehicles stretch 4,810 mm in length with a 2,820 mm wheelbase and feature distinct front treatments to signal their powertrain.

The SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon, BYD’s first estate, couples everyday practicality and sleek styling with ultra-low running costs, aiming to revive mainstream demand for wagons. Measuring 4,850 mm in length and 1,505 mm in height, it offers a roomy 2,790 mm wheelbase, semi-recessed door handles and a three-stage waistline that accentuates its elegant silhouette. Beneath the bonnet, a highly efficient 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid engine and a generous electric range provide drivers with exceptional economy and versatility, making electrified mobility more accessible than ever.

BYD also premiered the Dynasty-D, a full-size concept SUV that joins the HAN and TANG at the range’s summit. At 5.3 metres long, it commands attention with a 2.4-metre integrated light bar—the industry’s longest—brushstroke-like flanks, 23-inch wheels and 3D Chinese-knot tail lights featuring phoenix motifs. Inside, bamboo inlays, hand-applied gold leaf and traditional paper techniques sit beside eight interconnected screens, creating a cockpit where ancient craft meets modern innovation.

Premium brand DENZA electrified the show with the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car. Named after “Zenith”, the supercar combines sculpted, aerodynamic form with advanced innovation. An adjustable rear wing cleans airflow and boosts downforce, while a high-strength roll cage, carbon-fibre bucket seats, and an integrated carbon-fibre dashboard immerse enthusiasts. The car debuts DENZA’s fully self-developed steer-by-wire technology, a global first, and a drive-by-wire suite covering steering, powertrain, braking, and suspension. It’s DiSus-M Magnetorheological Body Control System adjusts damping in under 10 milliseconds and partners with predictive terrain scanning for precision on challenging roads.

Luxury marque YANGWANG has introduced the U8L, a six-seat full-size SUV that measures 5,400 mm in length with a 3,250 mm wheelbase, promising genuine three-row comfort. The e4 Platform and DiSus-P Intelligent Body Control deliver extreme safety features, including emergency water flotation, tyre-blowout stability, and on-the-spot U-turn capability. A black-gold two-tone finish, dark accents, and retractable door handles refine the silhouette, while removing the rear-mounted spare wheel streamlines the tailgate.

Off-road brand FANGCHENGBAO completed the group’s showcase by displaying the BAO 5, BAO 8, and the newly launched BAO 3, alongside three special editions and a live demonstration of BYD’s intelligent in-car drone system, reinforcing the company’s breadth in electric adventure vehicles.
