Alpine thrills Goodwood with A290 Rallye and Alpenglow HY6
Alpine storms back to the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 10–13 July with a show-stopping fleet that features the world dynamic debut of the Alpine A290 Rallye and the UK’s first dynamic outings for the hydrogen-powered Alpenglow HY6 concept, the track-honed A110 R Ultime and the forthcoming A390 fastback.
The appearance forms the centrepiece of the renowned French sports car maker’s 70th-anniversary celebrations. Fans will also cheer the BWT Alpine Formula One Team as it charges up the hill each day, while the all-electric A290—recently crowned European Car of the Year 2025—and the multi-award-winning A110 enjoy their final Goodwood runs before production of the latter winds down next year.
Taking centre stage, the Alpine A290 Rallye brings competition focus to the Car of the Year. Engineers have fitted a full safety cage, a ZF limited-slip differential, uprated suspension, brakes and running gear, creating a machine purpose-built for rally stages. Alpine unveiled the car only last week in the service park of Rallye du Rouergue wearing a striking livery by racing design chief Raphael Linari, who explained, “This is an Alpine A290 in sporting clothes. The look has been designed to convey lightness, simplicity and efficiency.”
The futuristic Alpenglow HY6 first revealed at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, will also attack the famous hill for the first time. Its 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 delivers 740 bhp while running on hydrogen, signalling Alpine’s commitment to cutting carbon without curbing excitement and hinting at styling cues for the brand’s next generation of models.
Engineers have honed the A110 R Ultime into the ultimate expression of the celebrated coupé. With 345 bhp, 420 Nm of torque and a 0–100 km/h sprint of 3.8 seconds, it laps the Nordschleife roughly 20 seconds faster than the A110 R, and it will demonstrate that pace on Goodwood’s hill.
Soon to launch, the fully electric, five-seat A390 fastback promises the agility and driver engagement for which the A110 is famous. It joins the existing road-car range—A290 and A110—to underline Alpine’s blend of high-performance and motorsport-bred handling.
Nic Burnside, Managing Director of Alpine Cars UK, remarked, “With motorsport in Alpine’s DNA, we are going the extra mile to bring an amazing and headline-grabbing lineup of cars to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. In the UK, Goodwood will be the highlight of our 70th-anniversary celebrations, and we are determined to put on a memorable show for all the fans visiting this iconic venue.”
Throughout the weekend, Alpine machines will feature in the First Glance, New Classics and Supercar demonstrations, while the A110 R Ultime will chase honours in the timed shoot-out.
