Bentley Batur Convertible by Mulliner: Bespoke One-Off Revealed

Mulliner has created the first Batur Convertible, Bentley’s in-house bespoke and special projects division. This true one-off wears Opalite paint with Beluga and Mandarin highlights. The interior, co-created with the client’s detailed input, presents a unique ‘one plus one’ design that sets the driver’s cockpit and passenger accommodation in contrasting yet complementary colours, showcasing coachbuilt British luxury.

Mulliner emphasises the extraordinary performance of the 740 bhp W12 powertrain through purposeful design. A black gloss Batur racing stripe, bordered by Mandarin pinstripes, bisects the shimmering silver Opalite exterior. Mulliner embeds the painted stripe seamlessly into the bodywork; it starts at the radiator, runs rearwards over the bonnet and cockpit ‘airbridge’, then resumes along the rear deck to the Bentley wings badge. At the rear, bespoke embroidery connects these elements across the Tonneau. The Batur’s distinctive matrix grille wears gloss Beluga with Mandarin orange highlights, and the five-spoke alloy wheels echo the same base and accent shades.

Inside, the Batur Convertible develops the performance theme. A driver-focused cockpit ‘capsule’ stands visually apart from the passenger space with two contrasting colourways: Beluga black for the driver and Linen for the passenger.

Mulliner trims the driver’s seat in Beluga black hide and Alcantara, picking out the Batur pattern on seat bolsters and door inserts in Linen with Mandarin contrast stitching. A band of Mandarin hide encircles the driver, running from the driver’s side of the centre console across the fascia instrumentation and continuing beneath the door waistline.

In dramatic contrast, the passenger reclines in a sports seat in Linen hide and Alcantara with Mandarin detailing. The Batur pattern on the seat and door insert sits on a Linen background with Mandarin contrast stitching.

Behind the two seats, the interior luggage area follows the same template, with the unique Batur pattern in Beluga on the driver’s side and in Linen for the passenger. Mulliner even coordinates the matching key cases and seat belts to the two respective colourways.

The specification reveals the commissioning owner’s passion for detail, realised by Mulliner’s meticulous craftsmanship. The fascia and door waistrails feature a subtle satin black engine spin finish, while gloss Beluga veneer dresses the centre console. Outer dial bezels appear in Beluga, and light titanium forms the dial faces.

The steering wheel comes trimmed in Beluga with Linen inner surfaces and Mandarin cross-stitching, with a machined titanium feature at Top Dead Centre. Mulliner machines other solid titanium details for the gearshift paddles, the rotary controls on the steering wheel stalks, the charisma rotary control on the centre console, the organ stop air vent controls and the inner ring of the bullseye air vent at either end of the fascia. Illuminated outer sill treadplates carry the Batur nameplate and the series number.

Open the rear luggage compartment to reveal another bespoke flourish. A two-piece luggage set nestles within, one piece echoing the driver’s Beluga scheme and the other in Linen. As a finishing touch, Mulliner also creates two bespoke key cases in the same colourways.

Mulliner’s engineering development car, Batur Convertible Car Zero, made its dynamic debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and now travels to the US for Monterey Car Week, where visitors can admire its bespoke duo tone finish in Vermilion Gloss over Vermillion Satin.

Mulliner, Bentley’s in-house bespoke division and the longest-standing coachbuilder in the world, created the Batur Convertible as the third car in Mulliner’s Coachbuilt family, following the Bacalar barchetta and the Batur coupé. Bentley limits production to a small number of vehicles and retains the most powerful version of its iconic W12: a hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine producing 740 bhp.

Mulliner’s in-house design team co-creates every Batur Convertible with its clients, working together through a dedicated visualiser that allows any part of the luxury convertible to be customised in colour and surface finish. Like this car, each subsequent Batur Convertible will be as individual as its owner.
