BMW M2 CS Sets Nürburgring Nordschleife Lap Record at 7:25.5
On 11 April 2025, the new BMW M2 CS (combined fuel consumption 10.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions 226 g/km, CO₂ class G) stormed the Nürburgring’s legendary Nordschleife in 7 minutes 25.5 seconds, slicing eight seconds off the previous compact-class best and proving BMW M’s mastery of high-performance engineering. BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger guided the 20,832-kilometre run, showing how this limited-edition compact sports car blends road legality with track-ready pace.
“The BMW M2 CS has achieved a significant milestone with its lap time of 7:25.5 minutes on the Nordschleife, showcasing the potential for combining performance, technology and exceptional driving dynamics into a single vehicle,” stated Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH. “We are proud that the M2 CS has once again set a new benchmark in the compact car class with this lap time.”
Weidinger had already logged 7:38.7 in April 2023, yet two years later, he cut 13 seconds from his mark and became the first in class to breach 7:30. The feat underscores BMW M’s relentless innovation and the M2 CS’s raw capability. Mid-range siblings, such as the BMW M4 CS, M4 CSL, and M3 CS, have also dipped below 7:30, while the M4 CSL still leads BMW Group production cars with a time of 7:18.137.
Often called the “Green Hell”, the Nordschleife challenges drivers with more than 70 corners over 20.832 kilometres; independent officials scrutinise every record run to confirm standard-production status. A fast lap here remains the definitive test of a car’s dynamics.
BMW M and the Nürburgring have shared a thriving partnership for over 25 years. The BMW M Power Grandstand, BMW M Bridge, Driving Experience and Test Centre keep each new M model under rigorous scrutiny long before it reaches customers. BMW M Motorsport cars have already secured 21 overall victories in the Nürburgring 24-hour race, while the refreshed 2021 M Power showroom further cements the circuit as BMW M’s spiritual home.
The new BMW M2 CS channels this heritage. It’s a 390 kW (530 hp) six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, which delivers 650 Nm through an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic. Meanwhile, model-specific mounts, adaptive M suspension, and M compound brakes refine control. Targeted lightweight construction, featuring extensive carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, trims approximately 30 kg and sharpens agility. Forged M light-alloy wheels complete the package.
Built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, this limited-edition coupe reaches the German market in late summer 2025 at €115,000. For enthusiasts seeking uncompromised driving pleasure in a compact, high-performance sports car, the BMW M2 CS stands ready to redefine what a record-breaking lap—and every road journey—can feel like.
