BMW M2 Racing: Affordable 313 hp Entry Car for 2026 Season

From the 2026 season, BMW M Motorsport will open a new route into global racing for private customer teams with the BMW M2 Racing. Development and testing enter a crucial phase this year, and BMW unveiled the car to the public just before its market launch at the DTM season opener in Oschersleben, Germany. Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, emphasised, “With the introduction of the BMW M2 Racing, we are continuing a proud tradition… The car is affordable while offering racing teams and drivers uncompromising performance, durability, and pure driving pleasure. At BMW M Motorsport, supporting customer racing with cars that are easy to maintain, cost-efficient, and thrilling to drive is a top priority.”

The BMW M2 Racing channels 230 kW / 313 hp to the track and exceeds 270 km/h, drawing on the latest M2 chassis enhanced with dedicated racing components. BMW prices the base version at €98,000 excluding VAT through selected BMW M Motorsport dealers, delivering an accessible yet fully fledged race car for grassroots motorsport.

Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, added, “With the BMW M2 Racing, we’ve succeeded in bringing an entry-level customer racing model to the track that combines driving pleasure, performance, and particularly intuitive handling… This efficiency makes the BMW M2 Racing particularly attractive for grassroots motorsport, and makes racing even more accessible for customers.”

BMW M works drivers, including Jens Klingmann, conduct intensive test sessions under race conditions to refine performance, drivability, tyre wear, and mileage. Klingmann remarked, “Buyers of a BMW M2 Racing can look forward to a fantastic entry-level car that is very easy to operate, has extremely low operating costs due to its close relation to the production model, and yet is a fully fledged race car with high performance. Our focus is to ensure that the BMW M2 Racing… is the perfect car for everyone – from a novice on a track day to an ambitious racer.”

From 2026, private BMW M Motorsport teams will compete worldwide in national and international sprint series and endurance events, such as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, with confidence in professional support from BMW M Motorsport experts as they harness the thrills of the BMW M2 Racing.
