Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Restoration Revives a Legend
Celebrating a unique pre-series Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, reborn with La Maison Pur Sang.
When the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set a new production-car top-speed world record of 431.072 km/h in 2010, it confirmed the relentless pursuit of automotive excellence that defines Bugatti. To mark that landmark achievement, Bugatti created the exclusive Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition. The marque finished the series in exposed carbon fibre and vivid Bugatti orange, taking direct inspiration from the record-breaking car. Today, Bugatti extends that legacy through La Maison Pur Sang, its official heritage and restoration programme. The team has now meticulously restored a unique factory pre-series model that helped pave the way for the record car, for a discerning Bugatti collector.
La Maison Pur Sang stands at the peak of Bugatti’s commitment to preserving the marque’s extraordinary heritage while keeping its hyper sports cars on the road, exactly as intended. Bugatti brings together its engineers, technicians and craftspeople through the programme to provide certification, restoration and preservation services. The team returns each vehicle to the exacting standards it carried when it first left the Atelier. Even after extensive mileage, Bugatti can return these machines to new car specification. This work fuels passion, creates lifelong memories and keeps dreams alive on the open road for generations. It also protects the engineering integrity, craftsmanship and performance that sustain the Bugatti legend.
This Bugatti Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition carries an especially remarkable story in Bugatti history. As a pre-series development vehicle, it played a central role in the global introduction of the Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition. It travelled internationally and supported communications activity, customer demonstrations, media engagements and photoshoots. That work gave enthusiasts around the world the chance to experience the engineering marvel that set a new benchmark for performance.
Behind the scenes, the car also played a vital part in the development of the production-series Veyron Super Sport. As a working development vehicle, it helped Bugatti refine the systems and technologies that later defined the production model and enabled it to beat the existing world record. That contribution gives this example an authentic link to one of the most important chapters in Bugatti’s modern story.
After covering more than 70,800 km since summer 2010, the car entered the care of the La Maison Pur Sang team in Molsheim for a comprehensive refurbishment. Over six months, Bugatti specialists returned the vehicle to its original specification. They approached every detail with the same meticulous care that goes into creating a new Bugatti.
Inside the cabin, the team corrected and rejuvenated the leather surfaces. They restored the seats to their original form and comfort. They also fully serviced and detailed the steering wheel, the central tactile link between driver and machine, so the Veyron Super Sport could deliver the authentic driving experience Bugatti intended. The specialists examined and refined every stitch and finish to give this extraordinary car a new life.
On the outside, the team carried out an equally detailed transformation. They completely refinished the exposed carbon fibre bodywork and applied a flawless new clear coat to the defining feature of the World Record Edition’s dramatic appearance. They also carefully renewed the distinctive Bugatti orange paintwork, restoring the vivid contrast that has become synonymous with the world-record Bugatti hyper-sports-car legend.
During the Bugatti restoration process, the team also upgraded several pre-series components to production specification. They updated selected electronics and radiator systems to match the final production configuration of the Veyron Super Sport, helping to maintain exceptional reliability and performance. Crucially, the car still retains the original core mechanical elements of its awe-inspiring W16 engine and highly complex gearbox. That continuity preserves the authenticity and historical importance of a model built to carry the Bugatti legend through the ages.
Now that the restoration is complete, this Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition begins a new chapter in the collection of a loyal Bugatti owner. To honour the car’s incomparable legacy, Bugatti will also present the owner with a dedicated certification book. The book records the vehicle’s unique history, its meticulous refurbishment in Molsheim and the role it has played in the marque’s illustrious story. By restoring this remarkable Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, Bugatti preserves a defining symbol of its modern engineering achievement and ensures that the story of one of the fastest production cars ever created continues on the road, exactly as Ettore Bugatti intended.
