BYD Builds 13 Millionth New Energy Vehicle

BYD has become the world’s first carmaker to produce 13 million new energy vehicles, as a YANGWANG U7 left the assembly line on 21 July. The landmark vehicle crowns three decades of research and signals a pivotal moment for global electric‑mobility progress.

The company’s decision to electrify every model under its multiple brands resonates with drivers who want greener technology. BYD needed just eight months to move from ten to thirteen million NEVs, whereas the first million demanded thirteen years, underscoring surging demand for electric and plug‑in hybrid cars.

During the first half of 2025, BYD sold 2,145,954 new energy passenger cars worldwide, strengthening its position as the top-selling NEV manufacturer. Overseas markets absorbed 470,086 of these vehicles, and year‑on‑year growth of 128.5 per cent reflects an expanding international presence.

The milestone YANGWANG U7 now reaches customers across China. Its DiSus-Z intelligent body control, e⁴ platform, horizontally opposed electric motor, and rear-wheel steering combine to deliver exceptional stability, rapid response, and superior safety, giving drivers precise control and heightened comfort.

YANGWANG, BYD’s luxury sub‑brand, continues to build momentum; deliveries have already topped 10,000 units, drawing strong interest from media and owners alike.

Founded in 1995, BYD remains the only NEV producer to design and manufacture its own power systems, batteries, semiconductors, motors, and controllers. Employing more than 120,000 engineers and filing over forty patent applications each working day, the company’s relentless innovation underpins its 13 million‑vehicle achievement and reinforces its commitment to sustainable development.

In 2020, BYD launched the Blade Battery, whose flat, rectangular LFP design enhances cooling and resists thermal runaway. The pack passed a nail‑penetration test with temperatures between 30 °C and 60 °C, emitting no smoke or flames, and endures more than 5,000 charge–discharge cycles, advancing safety and longevity in electric‑vehicle technology.
