Genesis G90 Wingback Concept Debuts Magma Direction
Genesis marked its 10th anniversary by staging the world premiere of its first Magma production model, a decisive statement that signals where the marque will go over the next decade. Alongside the unveiling of the highly anticipated GV60 Magma, the carmaker also revealed the G90 Wingback Concept, which shows how Genesis has evolved from a young luxury brand into a luxury high-performance brand.
Genesis has achieved in ten short years what legacy brands often take decades to deliver, and the G90 Wingback Concept makes that progress impossible to miss. Its striking presence also demonstrates the diverse forms the Magma programme can take across the Genesis line-up.
Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke drove the G90 Wingback Concept for its reveal, underlining Genesis’s commitment to its luxury high-performance vision. The design cues identify it immediately as a Magma product, while the reworked, familiar lines of the production G90 point to the personalisation Genesis offers customers. As Donckerwolke put it, the G90 Wingback Concept is a “bridge between Magma and the One of One bespoke program.”
Genesis built the Wingback Concept on an unmodified G90 platform, keeping its 3.2-metre wheelbase and 5.1-metre length, yet drawing fresh potential from a well-known foundation. The concept intensifies signature Genesis design elements, including the Crest Grille, the Parabolic Line and the distinctive Two-Line headlamps. This approach gives the car an aggressive stance while it keeps an aristocratic demeanour that suits a flagship luxury saloon turned grand tourer.
“At the moment, there is, let’s say, a multiplication of SUVs. And this fast growth will create a saturation,” said Donckerwolke. He continued, “This is when other typologies of cars are going to become attractive again. This is why I strongly believe in not having a typology monoculture.”
The G90 Wingback Concept features a dynamic front fascia with the signature Crest Grille and a more sculpted front bumper that carries the Magma insignia. Large lower air intakes sit below, and canards flank them on both sides to sharpen the performance-led look. Flared wheel arches widen the stance and frame bespoke 22-inch wheels fitted with low-profile tyres, reinforcing the car’s luxury performance intent.
In profile, the G90 Wingback Concept retains the Parabolic Line and long wheelbase of the G90. At the same time, Genesis stretches the roofline with a delicate sweep to create a sleek grand tourer wagon silhouette. At the rear, the concept replaces the saloon’s boot with a tailgate and a sharply raked rear window framed by two spoilers. A performance-inspired rear diffuser structure completes the transformation and adds visual depth.
Genesis finished the G90 Wingback Concept in a deep green that feels understated yet arresting, proving that the Magma identity extends beyond the signature Magma Orange. “Magma is much more than a colour,” said Donckerwolke. It shows what becomes possible when Korean innovation meets global ambition, and it expresses a distinct Korean vision of care, respect and balance. “Magma does not shout; it invites,” Donckerwolke explained. “Where most chase aggression and extremes, we seek balance. Magma is designed to be rewarding, not challenging; to complement the driver, not to intimidate them.”
Inside the cabin, the concept continues that message through refined Magma detailing. Green Magma stitching and accents sit across the quilted Chamude seats and door trim, with complementary touches on the steering wheel, dashboard and centre console. The sporty seats also carry an embroidered Magma logo, which reinforces the luxury high-performance identity and the latent power waiting to be released, like magma building beneath the earth’s surface.
The G90 Wingback Concept also signals how far Genesis intends to extend the Magma programme, spanning a spectrum of vehicle typologies across current and future models, from sports cars to coupés and convertibles. Donckerwolke described them as “the materialisation of the iron fist in a velvet glove, capturing a duality of power and control wrapped in elegant design.
The G90 Wingback proudly carries the Genesis emblem and features a muscular front bumper carrying the Magma badge and large lower air intakes accentuated by canards on both sides.
The G90 Wingback Concept goes beyond a showpiece and embodies a decade of innovation, accelerating Genesis into its next chapter. It broadens Magma's future vision and expresses emotionally resonant luxury through a bold new typology that strengthens Genesis’s position in the luxury high-performance arena.
