Horse Powertrain Debuts Future Hybrid Concept at Auto Shanghai

At the 2025 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, Horse Powertrain unveiled its Future Hybrid Concept powertrain and presented eight advanced engines and transmissions, reinforcing the firm's leadership in innovative, low-emission propulsion. The showcase highlighted versatile powertrains built for range-extended electric vehicles, hybrid cars and alternative-fuel combustion platforms, proving the adaptability of Horse Powertrain technology.

The Future Hybrid Concept combines an internal combustion engine, electric motor, and transmission into a single, compact casing, allowing manufacturers to hybridise battery-electric vehicle platforms with minimal re-engineering. Its lightweight, modular design extends the driving range, while integrated driveshafts and a transmission enable all-wheel drive in both electric and parallel modes.

Range-extender solutions included the ‘Gemini’ 1.0-litre flat twin generator, which weighs just 91 kilograms, runs an efficient lean-burn Atkinson cycle on petrol or methanol blends and produces 31 kilowatts, and a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine from Curitiba and Valladolid that delivers 86 kilowatts and 200 newton-metres through a WEG generator and supports flex fuels.

In the hybrid category, a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine outputs 115 kilowatts and 225 newton-metres thanks to a high-efficiency combustion system, electric water pump and low-friction internals. The Sevilla-built DHT4 hybrid automatic gearbox, fitted with a straightforward dog-clutch mechanism, manages up to 300 newton-metres and improves efficiency by 20 per cent over conventional automatics. The integrated e-Hybrid platform couples a 1.5-litre engine that achieves 46.5 per cent thermal efficiency with the DHT160 hybrid transmission, offering a flexible architecture compatible with low-carbon methanol. For alternative fuels, Horse Powertrain showcased a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection methanol engine designed for medium and large vehicles, capable of 150 kilowatts and 375 newton-metres of torque.

Additionally, the company displayed a hydrogen-fuelled 2.0-litre unit that produces 107 kilowatts and 230 nnewton-metres oftorque, featuring stratified combustion and zero tailpipe carbon ddioxide emissions Backed by 17 manufacturing plants, five research and development centres and 19,000 employees, Horse Powertrain delivers complete hybrid and combustion solutions that meet eighty per cent of global market needs, accelerating the industry's transition towards net-zero mobility.
