Kinetiz Wins A2RL SIM-Sprint, AI Racing Series Finale
The inaugural A2RL SIM-Sprint series has wrapped after four rounds, with Kinetiz taking overall victory in a tight finish. The virtual autonomous racing series pitted AI drivers against each other at three circuits: Suzuka, Yas Marina Circuit, and the purpose-built Autonodrome. The field delivered high-speed strategy and precision, showcasing rapid progress in autonomous racing and simulation.
Kinetiz finished on 78 points and edged A2RL Season 1 winner TUM by four. Unimore Racing and PoliMOVE completed the top four, split by a single point, with Constructor Racing and TII Racing following. The results underline how close competition in AI motorsport has become.
A2RL created the four-race SIM-Sprint to accelerate driving algorithm development and refine sporting regulations ahead of the real-world A2RL event on 15 November 2025. The virtual format exposed teams to diverse challenges and edge cases in a safe and accessible environment, preparing them for the EAV-25 autonomous racecars, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h around the Yas Marina Circuit. The series strengthened technical readiness and provided high-quality racing data for analysis.
Across all four races, teams adopted a classic motorsport mindset, seeking performance within the rules. They probed gaps in the new governance system, from track limits to contact, and in doing so helped test and harden the framework. The final round featured penalties for collisions and real-time stewarding, along with official protests and a review of a notable incident between Kinetiz and TUM that required careful, evidence-led judgment.
The ruleset evolved through five iterations to mitigate issues and promote fairness while staying true to the spirit of respectful racing. That evolution now informs November’s real-world event, where transparent governance and robust enforcement will matter even more for authenticity and safety.
Alexander Winkler, Head of Sporting at A2RL, said: “We are extremely proud of A2RL SIM-Sprint; it has been an immense success, and certainly not without its challenges. From the outset, we had to build a world-class autonomous racing simulation platform, secure team engagement, and launch an all-new virtual competition. The result was a robust and fiercely competitive series that has become a genuine reference point for A2RL’s future, accelerating both AI development and our sporting framework. Congratulations to Kinetiz and all participating teams for the remarkable progress made across the four rounds.”
Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE, the organisers of A2RL, said: “The team at A2RL has done a fantastic job in building SIM-Sprint from the ground up in mere months. It has enabled the level of competition to grow sharper and better prepared the teams for wheel-to-wheel action around Yas Marina Circuit in November. Congratulations to all the teams involved for approaching this new competition with an open mind and exceptional engineering creativity – together we are pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology.”
