Škoda Enyaq RS Race: Lighter Electric Racer with Bio-Fibre
Škoda Motorsport showcases the latest Enyaq RS Race, an all-electric racing car that merges Czech racing heritage with future-focused technology. Engineers stripped out unnecessary parts and fitted polycarbonate side and rear windows. They integrated innovative flax-fibre biocomposites to reduce the weight of the standard Enyaq Coupé vRS by 316 kg, proving that a lightweight design need not compromise rigidity.
Development began in 2023, and the concept premiered in October 2024; the new version now sits 70 mm lower, spreads 72 mm wider at the front and 116 mm at the rear, and benefits from a finely tuned chassis. “Our racing DNA drives every improvement,” say Škoda technicians, who mirrored the agile handling of the Fabia RS Rally2 while retaining the production model’s 250 kW dual-motor powertrain. The result: 0–62 mph in under five seconds and a 111 mph top speed, achieved with sharper aerodynamics and reduced drag.
Flax-based AmpliTex and PowerRibs panels replace carbon fibre in 16 body and interior components, reducing weight by roughly 85 per cent while cutting CO₂ emissions by the same amount, damping cabin vibrations, and delivering an eye-catching weave. Škoda’s team also relied on 3D-printed recycled nylon and biodegradable biopolymer parts during prototyping, underscoring a commitment to sustainable innovation.
A wider body shell, rebuilt from production-line pressings, houses a high-strength chrome-molybdenum roll cage, Atech racing seats with six-point harnesses, and an automatic fire-extinguisher, matching WRC safety standards. New carbon-ceramic discs, ten-piston front and four-piston rear callipers, and dedicated cooling enhance braking endurance, while limited-slip differentials boost corner exit traction. Adjustable sports suspension lets drivers fine-tune compression and rebound for any circuit, and 20-inch low-profile tyres maximise grip.
Revised bumpers, air curtains, a solid front section with tilted radiator, and a large rear wing generate extra downforce. NACA ducts feed the cabin, winglets smooth airflow, and vented arches aid brake cooling, providing the Enyaq RS Race with a stable high-speed balance. Protective skids safeguard the battery and chassis during aggressive kerb strikes.
Inside, a rally-inspired cockpit replaces the panoramic glass roof with a biocomposite panel, installs a linear steering rack tuned in software, and positions the drive selector and safety controls between two seats. A modified infotainment system supports race telemetry, while a Havas premium sound system, triggered above 18 mph, delivers an adjustable electric soundtrack that amplifies the car’s sporty character.
By marrying electrified performance with sustainable materials, the Škoda Enyaq RS Race signals a greener, lighter future for motorsport and the brand’s forthcoming road models.
