Helix Achieves ISO 14001 for Environmental Management
Helix (a trading name of Integral Powertrain Ltd), the UK manufacturer of the world’s most power-dense electric motors and inverters, has earned ISO 14001 certification. The standard sets the global gold benchmark for an environmental management system, the policies and processes that govern operations and environmental impact.
The certification caps a year of focused work to strengthen sustainability and ESG performance, guided by a new ESG Steering Group. Helix treats its environmental management system as a strategic priority. Alongside emissions reduction and energy efficiency, the business prioritises ethical sourcing and selects durable, resource-efficient and recyclable materials for motors and inverters.
To accelerate sustainable manufacturing, Helix completed its first carbon audit to map its current footprint and implemented carbon accounting to track full Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. The team installed solar panels and now works to maximise green electricity across its Milton Keynes head office and its engineering and manufacturing sites.
Helix continues to improve its supply chain, waste and recycling practices. As a motor manufacturer heavily reliant on rare earth minerals, the company focuses on designing for recyclability and increasing the recycled content of rare earths in its production. In the first half of 2025, Helix recycled over six tonnes of metal waste and enhanced general waste management across the business.
Paul Arnold, Environment and Sustainability Manager at Helix, said: “ISO 14001 certification is a great milestone for Helix, and reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability. We continually seek ways to enhance energy efficiency, minimise waste, and ensure a sustainable and low-impact supply chain. With a robust environmental management system, rigorous data collection, and a culture of continuous improvement, we’re excited to find new ways to improve the sustainability of our operations.”
ISO 14001 now anchors best practice across the manufacturing and mobility value chain, and several Helix partners, including Aston Martin, Czinger, Volkswagen and Triumph, already hold the standard. By certifying its own environmental management system, Helix helps partners strengthen ESG credibility and compliance.
Beyond internal projects, Helix collaborates with industry to drive broader impact. The company recently participated in the Decarbonising Midlands Aerospace Cluster project, which aims to reduce UK aerospace industrial emissions by 90% by 2050, reinforcing Helix’s role in advancing sustainable e-mobility and manufacturing.
