Lamborghini Pregunta Concept Heads to Zoute Auction

Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, presents the Lamborghini Pregunta, widely regarded as the last Lamborghini concept built on a pure Lamborghini platform. The little-known Pregunta stands as the final concept car created before Audi took ownership of Sant’Agata. Broad Arrow will offer this unique concept car for sale for the first time in over a decade at the Broad Arrow Zoute Concours Auction.

This landmark sale joins the international collector car auction calendar on 10 October 2025 at Approach Golf in Knokke-Heist, in collaboration with Zoute Grand Prix Car Week. The Lamborghini Pregunta will headline a catalogue of more than 75 highly collectable cars, drawing global interest from supercar and concept car collectors.

Concept cars distil automotive creativity into one-off statements that showcase design and engineering. Manufacturers rarely put them into production, yet they often hint at future models. Their bold, futuristic form and singular build make them some of the most desirable collector cars, and the Lamborghini Pregunta exemplifies this allure for enthusiasts of Italian supercars and design-led prototypes.

The 1998 Lamborghini Pregunta (Estimate: €2,500,000 to €3,500,000) emerged from a collaboration between Lamborghini and French coachbuilder Carrosserie Heuliez. Lamborghini originally commissioned it under Chrysler ownership, and the concept debuted at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, months after the Volkswagen Group acquired the marque alongside Bentley and Bugatti. Based on extensively reworked Lamborghini Diablo underpinnings, the Pregunta is regarded by many as the last truly radical Lamborghini concept of its era.

“The Lamborghini Pregunta is a striking piece of design that combines both the superb engineering of Lamborghini and the fighter-jet inspired design created by Heuliez,” says Joe Twyman, VP of Sales for Broad Arrow’s EMEA Region. “We are extremely honoured to offer this incredibly unique piece of Lamborghini and supercar history to the collector car market and expect considerable interest in what is a genuinely fresh-to-market opportunity for collectors around the world.”

Marc Deschamps, then head of design at Heuliez and known for the Lamborghini Jalpa, styled the Pregunta during a period when concept cars stunned crowds and dominated headlines. As with later Lamborghini creations such as the 2007 Reventón and the 2013 Egoista concept, the design drew clear inspiration from a fighter jet, specifically the French Dassault Rafale.

Heuliez crafted the carbon fibre bodywork with vast air intakes that echo the Rafale. The canopy-like scissor doors, wraparound glass and the same Matte Grey paint deepen the aviation theme and give the concept car dramatic showroom impact for any supercar collection.

The interior continues the aircraft influence, featuring glass screens, aviation-style seats trimmed in Azure Blue Alcantara, fibre-optic lighting and rear-view cameras. A Formula One-derived Magneti Marelli digital instrument cluster delivers key data, while an Alpine audio system rounds out the period-correct specification prized by collector car buyers.

Engineers extensively reworked the Diablo platform, switching to rear-wheel drive to sharpen responses. The 5.7-litre V12 produces 537 PS and 605 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The concept claims 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 337 km/h, while a Quicksilver exhaust provides a soundtrack that mirrors its fighter-jet inspiration and underscores Lamborghini’s performance heritage.

The Pregunta also influenced future models from Sant’Agata and ultimately contributed to what became the Murciélago. Heuliez initially owned the car, and Lamborghini displayed it at trade shows and promotional events worldwide for years after its debut in Paris. The concept made its final appearance under Heuliez ownership at Retromobile in 2007, and was then sold to a private collector in 2008. It attended several exhibition events, received a Lamborghini Polo Storico certificate in 2014, and underwent inspection and servicing by the heritage division in 2021 before returning to Sant’Agata for display in the Museo Lamborghini.

“Not only is the Pregunta an incredible piece of supercar history, being able to offer this unique concept fresh from its time on display in the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata, further enhances its desirability,” says Gregory Tuytens, Head of Consignments in Belgium and the Netherlands for Broad Arrow. “We are thrilled to offer this unique Lamborghini to collectors at our Zoute Concours Auction, and look forward to welcoming collectors in person, on the telephone and online for what we expect to be some very exciting bidding.”
