Lamborghini SC63 targets IMSA redemption at Watkins Glen

The Lamborghini SC63 storms back into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the third round at picturesque Watkins Glen International during the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. Factory drivers Romain Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat share the #63 LMDh after Mirko Bortolotti diverts to the Nürburgring 24 Hours in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 with Abt Sportsline. Pfaff Motorsports also shuffles its GTD Pro crew: Factory driver Sandy Mitchell partners with Andrea Caldarelli while Marco Mapelli joins Bortolotti in Germany.

The SC63 endured two retirements at Daytona and Sebring, yet last year’s Watkins Glen pace—running firmly inside the top five before a mechanical issue fueled confidence. In GTD Pro, Pfaff’s Detroit street podium proved the Huracán GT3 EVO2 can fight at the front, and the model showed winning speed at Watkins Glen in 2024 until an incident with a back-marker ended hopes.

Former British GT champion Mitchell arrives fresh from GT World Challenge Europe duties with VSR and Barwell Motorsport. The 25-year-old Scot already knows the Glen from Lamborghini Super Trofeo and sampled IMSA action at Road America and Daytona last season, so he slots into the Pfaff cockpit with minimal adaptation.

GTD line-ups stay intact for the Michelin Endurance Cup. Danny Formal, Trent Hindman and Graham Doyle seek to avenge their near Daytona victory in the #45 Wayne Taylor Racing Huracán GT3 EVO2. At the same time, Forte Racing revisits the venue of Loris Spinelli’s 2023 overall pole. Mario Farnbacher, Misha Goikhberg and Parker Kligerman again chase silverware.

Summer heat and humidity at the 5.552 km, 11-turn Watkins Glen circuit test drivers and machinery, making tyre conservation essential in both GTP and GTD. Two practice sessions begin on Friday, preceding Saturday's qualifying, and unpredictable rain—common in upstate New York—could turn grid position and slick strategy into valuable assets for a race win.
