Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Black Series Enter a New Era

Mercedes-AMG drew attention last year with the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT. AMG fans around the world asked how this striking concept would shape the wider GT family. Mercedes-AMG has now answered that question. The concept car acts as a technology platform for two exceptional performance models. It provides the foundation for the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the future Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, expanding the current GT family with two new models.

Michael Schiebe, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management, and Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said: "We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever. At the same time, we want to set the next record-breaker in motorsport with the future GT3. The foundation for this is the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT – a technology demonstrator that was more than just a concept from the very start. It is our unambiguous commitment to maximum performance, a promise for the racetrack and the road alike. At AMG, we develop vehicles to exceed expectations. And that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do."

With this project, the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach once again reinforces its ambition to set new standards in Customer Racing and on the road. The road-legal version of the concept car serves as a homologation model for the GT3 successor. AMG chose the name “TRACK SPORT” with care. It connects the uncompromising track performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 with the extreme yet road-legal performance that has always defined Black Series models.

Since October 2025, engineers have put the camouflaged prototype through extensive dynamic testing on test tracks and racetracks. They have tested it at the in-house development track in Immendingen, as well as at Bilster Berg, Portimão and Monteblanco. The team has now moved into the next stage of development with testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. AMG has also fixed the colour identities for both models. Red will represent the Mercedes-AMG GT3 as a core part of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport colour scheme, while yellow-green will represent the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 marks the next step in Mercedes-AMG’s successful Customer Racing programme. The brand laid the foundations for its Customer Racing commitment in 2010. It then entered its first full racing season in 2011 with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. Mercedes-AMG built on that success with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in 2016 and the Evo version in 2020.

The decision to develop a successor to the GT3 led to the creation of Affalterbach Racing GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-AMG. This company and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport now lead the development and construction of the new vehicle. The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 remains in an intensive development phase. The team aims to extend the Customer Racing legacy while setting fresh standards in performance, safety and competitiveness.

Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, said: "With the unveiling of the concept, we can now officially name the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, with which we aim to continue the success story in Customer Racing for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. Our goal is once again to present a vehicle that sets the benchmark. We have already gained important insights from the initial tests. We are now entering the next phase of development and will also be testing on race tracks relevant to GT Sport."

The AMG Black Series represents the pinnacle of the Mercedes-AMG range in terms of power, endurance and outright performance. Since 2006, selected models have carried the coveted ‘Black Series’ name. AMG’s roots lie in motor racing. In 1967, founders Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher set out to develop cars based on Mercedes vehicles that could meet the demands of professional motorsport. They kept their focus on bringing racing DNA to the road.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG played a key role in that story. Its 360 hp 5.5-litre V8 engine delivered impressive performance, including service as the official FIA F1® Safety Car. The road car helped shape the idea, but specially developed versions of the SLK 55 for an Asian racing series gave the Black Series range its decisive push. Internally, the team ran that project under the working title “TRACK SPORT”. The title captured a clear goal: to transfer an uncompromising track focus directly into a road-legal vehicle. That approach reached its first peak in 2006 with the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Black Series, a car that expressed the spirit of motorsport in its purest form and laid the foundation for a tradition of bringing high-performance racing technology to the road.

The CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT brings that unique blend of racing and road-legal performance into the present day. The Black Series story stands for innovation, uncompromising performance and a relentless pursuit of the limit. The concept marked another milestone on that journey. That journey now leads to the standalone debut of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the future AMG GT Black Series, two vehicles that carry the legend forward and shape the future of Mercedes-AMG performance.

Mercedes-AMG will announce further details on both vehicles at a later date.
