New Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Redefines Luxury Travel
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class arrives with a clear purpose. It redefines what a luxury saloon can be. Mercedes-Benz shaped this car to deliver tranquillity, craftsmanship and technological elegance in equal measure. For the first time in a Maybach, the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS, creates a seamless digital journey that feels intuitive, refined and intelligent. Customers in Europe can order the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class from 25 March 2026.
In 2026, Mercedes-Benz marks 140 years since the invention of the automobile. Across every era, Mercedes-Benz has created icons that reflect pioneering spirit, excellence and a sense of belonging: “Welcome home.” For 105 years, Maybach has elevated that heritage into a vision of modern luxury. Mercedes-Maybach combines Mercedes-Benz technology and engineering with Maybach exclusivity and elegance. “For 105 years, the Maybach name has stood as the benchmark for automotive excellence. With the launch of the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, this legacy continues with new levels of exclusivity and comfort. With the AI-powered MB.OS, we are further elevating the digital customer experience. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the next highlight in our biggest product launch programme. Mercedes-Maybach is an important strategic pillar in expanding our top-end segment.” Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class brings a stronger, more sculptural grille that is 20 per cent larger and can include a luminous surround. The Maybach emblem on the C-pillar and the upright Mercedes-Benz star on the bonnet can also be illuminated. The grille now carries an illuminated Maybach wordmark for the first time, while the double-star headlamps feature subtle rose-gold accents. Silver forged wheels now use a refined ball-bearing mechanism that keeps the Mercedes-Benz star upright at all times. Inside, the redesigned cabin blends traditional craftsmanship with the modern MBUX Superscreen and a Maybach-specific ambient style. New open-pore wood, including beautifully grained oak, joins soft lighting, rich materials and smooth digital surfaces to create the calm Maybach cocooning effect. For the first time, buyers can also choose a leather-free interior with high-grade Mirville textile, a natural-fibre look, deep white piping and an open-quilted diamond pattern.
Mercedes-Maybach also expands the personalisation offer. MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure lets customers shape the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class with a vast range of leather, stitching, embroidery and bespoke finishes. The luxury saloon also strengthens comfort with automatic comfort doors, Executive rear seats, a refrigerated compartment and silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes. New electrified eight and six-cylinder engines deliver effortless power with mild-hybrid support and energy recuperation. MB.OS sits at the centre of the experience, featuring the latest MBUX generation, Maybach-specific graphics, an enhanced Zero Layer, and the MBUX Virtual Assistant with generative AI. Over-the-air updates keep key functions current. Advanced driving and parking systems add intuitive support, and MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO supports smooth point-to-point journeys in dense urban traffic. Buyers can also choose new wheel designs and the new Nautic Blue metallic finish in the Night Series palette.
The exterior now projects more confidence and poise. The enlarged radiator grille gives the front end a stronger presence, while illuminated accents create a sense of ceremony every time the car arrives or departs. Rose-gold details in the headlamps add a jewellery-like finish, and chrome Maybach patterns in the air intakes sharpen the front design. Mercedes-Maybach gives V12 models a new grille emblem, and a discreet projector in the side sills casts a Maybach wordmark onto the ground. At the rear, the taillights echo the front star motifs, and the redesigned two-tone handle strip combines chrome with high-gloss black to underline the attention to detail.
Two new forged wheel designs expand the range. Buyers can choose a 21-inch MANUFAKTUR wheel in a sophisticated golden finish or a 20-inch polished forged wheel for a more classic look. The floating centre star on all silver-finish forged wheels reinforces that sense of quiet precision. The Night Series package gives the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class a darker, more contemporary character with grey, black, and white paint finishes, or a two-tone obsidian black and Mojave silver combination with dark chrome accents. For the first time, buyers can now pair Night Series with nautic blue metallic. Inside, the package offers black Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather or MANUFAKTUR deep white and black pearl, plus a delicate mother-of-pearl effect and gold-grey piping.
The optional automatic comfort doors turn every arrival into a calm and graceful ritual. Rear passengers can open and close them with a button or through the MBUX display. Mercedes-Maybach designed the new S-Class around a deeper cocooning experience, and the interior redesign supports that aim from the steering wheel to the centre console. The revised centre console now includes an enhanced phone cradle with integrated charging and a sculpted trim element in finishes such as open-pore oak or open-pore amber-brown wood with a herringbone pattern. In the rear, the redesigned centre console includes two bespoke holders for the silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes. Since 2002, these optional flutes have added a celebratory touch to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. A ten-litre refrigerated compartment behind the rear armrest keeps champagne at the right temperature and can be removed when owners want more space for personal items.
“At Mercedes-Maybach, true luxury has always been defined by a profound sense of calm and relaxation. With the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, we reaffirm this commitment. Through a series of carefully orchestrated refinements, we offer our customers a truly unparalleled driving experience.” Markus Bauer, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz AG.
Mercedes-Maybach heightens that refined atmosphere with carefully chosen materials and ambient lighting. The new beech brown interior adds a couture-inspired richness. At the same time, Active Ambient Lighting uses 199 LEDs, ten colour worlds and 64 individually selectable colours, including the Maybach-exclusive Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow. The system also responds to voice commands, climate changes and driver-assistance cues. For the first time, Mercedes-Maybach offers a leather-free interior as a modern expression of luxury. The optional stormy grey scheme combines finely embossed ARTICO artificial leather with Mirville mélange textile, a linen-and-recycled-polyester blend that creates a natural-fibre look. Deep white piping and open-quilted diamond stitching complete the design, and Mercedes-Maybach applies the same standards of comfort, durability, and visual quality to its leather interiors.
The powertrain range now delivers stronger performance and greater refinement. Mercedes-Benz has extensively re-engineered the combustion engines and prepared them for future emissions rules. The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 uses the latest evolution of the eight-cylinder M 177 Evo and produces 450 kW plus 17 kW and 850 Nm plus 205 Nm. That output now matches the current 12-cylinder unit. Mild-hybrid technology, agile energy recuperation, and two Lanchester balance shafts help the engine deliver smooth, immediate power. The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 now develops 395 kW and 750 Nm, plus 17 kW and 205 Nm. In the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e with EQ Hybrid Technology, the revised six-cylinder petrol engine responds more quickly and gives the car a calmer and more assured character. Drivers can expect an electric range of around 100 kilometres and stronger mid-range acceleration thanks to increased torque at partial load. A more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, an optimised cylinder head, refined intake and exhaust ports, an adapted intake camshaft and further work on combustion and exhaust aftertreatment support those gains. Better insulation also improves noise and vibration control. In this plug-in hybrid, Mercedes-Maybach pairs the further-developed six-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, increasing system output by up to 55 kW over the previous engine generation. Additional insulation across the range further improves refinement, and the dedicated MAYBACH mode in DYNAMIC SELECT focuses entirely on supreme ride comfort.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 records combined energy consumption of 11.7 to 11.0 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions of 267 to 251 g/km and a CO₂ class of G. The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 records combined energy consumption of 11.5 to 10.8 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions of 263 to 247 g/km and a CO₂ class of G. The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e with EQ Hybrid Technology records weighted combined energy consumption of 18.2 to 17.5 kWh/100 km plus 3.2 to 2.9 l/100 km, fuel consumption with a discharged battery of 8.8 to 8.3 l/100 km, weighted combined CO₂ emissions of 73 to 65 g/km, a weighted CO₂ class of B and a CO₂ class of G with a discharged battery.
The new AIRMATIC air suspension lifts comfort further, especially for rear passengers. Using Car-to-X data from Mercedes-Benz vehicles ahead and real-time input from the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, the system reads the road early and adjusts damping electronically. That predictive approach helps the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class maintain its calm and composed ride.
MB.OS and the fourth-generation MBUX system reshape the digital experience with greater clarity and personalisation. The standard MBUX Superscreen brings the 36.6- and 31.2-centimetre central and passenger displays together beneath one sheet of glass. In comparison, the 31.2-centimetre instrument cluster rises ahead of them and can also appear in 3D. In Maybach trim, the display design features rose-gold dials, a gold-coloured Maybach emblem, and a textured backdrop in gold, rose gold, and black. In the rear, two 31.3-centimetre displays and newly designed, configurable remote controls let passengers manage climate, blinds and entertainment with ease. Integrated cameras also support video calls, adding comfort and productivity on the move.
The MBUX Virtual Assistant acts as a true conversational companion. It draws on artificial intelligence from partners including Microsoft and Google, such as ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing Search, and Google Gemini, to manage complex conversations and remember earlier interactions. Mercedes-Benz presents it on the Zero Layer as a living avatar, the Mercedes-Benz star, with an exclusive rose-gold finish. The expanded Zero Layer also lets users arrange and group apps to suit their own preferences. Because MB.OS connects to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, the system can deliver regular over-the-air updates for entertainment, key vehicle functions and driving assistance systems.
Mercedes-Maybach also equips the new S-Class with stronger digital foundations for driver support. A new water-cooled supercomputer provides substantial performance reserves for future functions—the MB.DRIVE ASSIST package includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Steering Assist and Lane Change Assist. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS adds more functions. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO supports seamless and safe point-to-point driving in urban settings. MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST can now identify spaces on both sides of the car earlier and supports diagonal parking for the first time. MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 adds enhanced surround-view displays through a 360-degree camera and updated graphics on the central screen. A new Digital Extra also warns drivers when wheels approach kerbs during manoeuvres.
Personalisation remains central to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. MANUFAKTUR gives customers extensive freedom across paint, trim, materials and handcrafted details, and almost every car now leaves the atelier with MANUFAKTUR refinement. “Maybach customers seek the extraordinary. They aspire to express their personality and style through their vehicle. With MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure, we achieve the highest form of individualisation – offering virtually limitless possibilities to craft a Maybach into a true one-off. And in the MANUFAKTUR Studio in Sindelfingen, customers witness their vision taking shape.” Michael Schiebe, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management.
For the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, customers can choose from more than 150 exterior paints and more than 400 interior colours. Two new MANUFAKTUR shades now join the range, including a black sparkling finish with a glass-flake clear coat and the refined verde silver magno. Buyers who want another visual accent can select the 21-inch MANUFAKTUR forged multi-spoke wheel with a gold finish. Inside, four new MANUFAKTUR colour combinations, tobacco and black, carmine red and black, lake green and black, and corn yellow and black, expand the interior offer. Each one uses the signature Maybach graphic of interlaced circles that form the Maybach triangle.
MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure takes that bespoke luxury further. The programme opens access to a wide range of pre-validated options that the system can assess instantly for feasibility. Customers can choose from hundreds of historic Mercedes-Benz and Maybach paint colours, a broad library of leather options and almost limitless decorative stitching shades, along with additional interior refinements. When a customer wants something beyond that portfolio, the MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure team can create it through one-to-one consultation. Each journey begins with a personal session that explores the full range of technically feasible colours and bespoke details, whether the customer sits at home, in a dealership or in a dedicated Made to Measure studio. The new Visualiser then brings those choices to life on screen before the first stitch or brushstroke begins.
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will begin series production in April 2026 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. Founded in 1915, Sindelfingen stands among the most historic Mercedes-Benz production sites and now carries 111 years of manufacturing heritage. The flagship model will take shape in Factory 56, which Mercedes-Benz regards as one of the world’s most advanced production facilities. The site combines flexibility, digital intelligence and efficiency in a way that has set new standards since 2020. At the Centre of Excellence in Sindelfingen, customers can configure their Mercedes-Maybach S-Class to match their own vision of perfection. The MANUFAKTUR workshop then brings each chosen element to life, and the adjoining MANUFAKTUR Studio lets customers watch their bespoke car take shape. In Sindelfingen, craftsmanship, precision and advanced manufacturing technology come together to create a truly individual luxury saloon.
