Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom Sets Monaco Electric Speed Record

At the 12th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom electric sports boat delivered an average 49.84-knot (92.3 km/h) run, outstripping every competitor and setting a new event record. Regarded as a leading innovation platform for sustainable maritime mobility, the Challenge—supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation—tests emission-free propulsion under real-world conditions. Judges measure average speed across two one-kilometre passes, a realistic gauge of efficiency and power. A fully standard production 850 Fantom, finished in Oakgreen Metallic Neo with a closed foredeck, swept the Open Sea class and eclipsed elite international teams.

"We are very proud that we were able to show the full potential of the Frauscher x Porsche as part of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge,” says Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Bootswerft. “This success not only underlines the boat's technical innovation, but also marks an important milestone in the development of electric propulsion solutions in the maritime sector. The combination of Porsche's drive technology with the boatbuilding know-how of our boatyard has resulted in an electric boat that is incomparable." Prince Albert II himself examined the eFantom on the quayside as Stefan Frauscher guided him through its features, further highlighting the craft’s significance.

"We are pleased about the success at the event. It proves that Porsche E-Performance enables top performance not only on the road, but also on the water," adds Jörg Kerner, Vice-President, Product Line Macan and a driving force behind the project. Frauscher and Porsche created an 8.67-metre by 2.49-metre electric day cruiser that channels sports-car DNA onto the water. Engineers adapted the 800-volt, up to 400 kW powertrain from the fully electric Porsche Macan Turbo, mating it to the distinctive hull of the Frauscher 858 Fantom for agile handling, advanced technology and refined aesthetics. Owners can choose the classic Runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin, or the open-bow Air, mirroring Porsche's coupé and cabriolet options.

Frauscher builds the 850 Fantom at its Ohlsdorf yard in Upper Austria, while Porsche supplies the pre-assembled high-voltage battery, power unit and control electronics. Frauscher oversees final assembly, global logistics and after-sales care, ensuring seamless customer support. The boat’s 800-volt architecture enables fast DC charging of up to 270 kW and convenient AC charging of up to 11 kW. Four driving modes—Docking, Range, Sport and Sport Plus—tailor output, with Sport Plus delivering roughly 49 knots (90 km/h). Operators can travel about 100 km at slow speed or 45 km when cruising at 22 knots (41 km/h), enjoying flexible, emission-free performance that redefines electric sports boating.
