Willow Springs Unveils Major Track Upgrades in California

Willow Springs International Raceway has unveiled extensive renovations to two of its most popular tracks, opening a new chapter for the historic Southern California motorsport venue. The 1.8-mile Streets of Willow Springs road course and the 0.625-mile kart track now feature comprehensive modernisation that enhances safety, elevates the driving experience and refreshes the circuit’s identity in the raceway’s new green and off-white colour scheme.

Crews replaced aged, cracked surfaces with smooth new asphalt to improve grip and consistency, then added new internal and external kerbs for more precise track limits and better car control. Teams regraded the perimeter, laid fresh gravel and created expanded runoff to reduce risk during incidents. They also introduced branded striping and logos across runoff zones, kerbs and the track edge to boost visibility and reinforce the Willow Springs brand on and off camera.

Engineers reshaped the Streets of Willow Springs layout with three new chicanes that extend the lap and temper speeds through key sections, balancing excitement with safety for track days, testing and club racing. To build on these upgrades, the raceway will install tyre barriers, Armco and air fence around both circuits during the autumn, further strengthening motorsport safety standards at the site.

The reveal showcased repaved surfaces and striking trackside paintwork that underline the scale of investment in this iconic American race track. Fans and drivers can expect a faster, more engaging experience on the refreshed Streets of Willow Springs and kart track, featuring improved runoff, modern kerbs, and clearer sightlines that reward precise driving and enhance coaching and filming.

“We are excited to preserve the history of Willow Springs while continuing to make improvements that establish it as the premier venue for motorsport enthusiasts of all kinds,” said Sam Byrne, co-founder of CrossHarbor Capital Partners and representative of the Willow Springs ownership group. “This is just the first phase of our plans for this iconic facility, and we’re excited to show off the work we’ve completed so far at the Willow Springs Reimagined event on 11 October.”
