Record-Breaking Taycan Turbo GT Rewrites Road Atlanta EV Lap

On 28 May 2025, Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT, a stock 2025 production electric sports car wearing the optional Weissach Package and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres, stormed round the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta circuit in 1:27.15, setting a new Road Atlanta EV lap record and trimming more than six seconds off the 2020 Taycan Turbo S benchmark. Professional racer and Porsche Cars North America brand ambassador Patrick Long delivered the blistering lap, revealing dramatic advances in battery output, twin-motor response, suspension precision and tyre grip.

“The new Taycan was so easy to get up to speed, and the brakes were amazing, there was no compromise in feel or power,” Long said after his first flying lap. He later added, “I expected the steering feel, connection, and feedback, but I didn’t expect how powerful the Active Ride suspension would be in counteracting pitch, roll, and squat. Road Atlanta puts a lot of load into a car, and the hydraulics kept up with it without any issues, and made sure the tyres were always at their best.”

Persistent morning rain left the surface patchily damp, yet mid-70s Fahrenheit air, moderate cloud and a gentle northerly breeze dried most of the track before the decisive run. Engineers set all four tyre pressures to 37 psi, cooled the battery to 68°F in Track Endurance Mode, and began with a 97% state of charge. Long completed two hot laps; both eclipsed the previous record, and the second proved fastest.

During set-up, the team explored different traction and stability control profiles. Long explained, “To be on the safe side, we experimented with traction and stability control settings, Sport PSM and off, and found the car to work just fine with it in Sport; you could see the traction control working on the dash, but it was seamless from the driver’s seat. And finally, Attack Mode is intense, I never have felt such a smooth but intense burst of usable power in anything, including race cars!”

The record-breaking Taycan Turbo GT stands out in Purple Sky paint with GT Silver interior accents and an illuminated light strip, proving that Porsche channels race-derived technology directly into a high-performance electric vehicle. Its breakthrough lap redefines what an electric car can achieve and underscores Porsche’s leadership in zero-emission speed.
