BMW M "100 Jahre Nürburgring" Edition Marks Centenary

The Nürburgring officially opened on 18 June 1972. To mark its 100th anniversary in 2027, BMW M and BMW Motorrad present a joint anniversary edition called "100 Jahre Nürburgring." The collection comprises six BMW M automobiles and three BMW Motorrad M models, paying tribute to a place that represents driving dynamics, precision, and performance like no other.

The edition models combine cutting-edge, high-performance technology with a unique design and equipment concept. BMW M GmbH's latest technical developments underpin the BMW M automobiles, and the inline six-cylinder models feature BMW M Ignite. The line-up includes the BMW M2, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M3 Touring, BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M5 Sedan, and BMW M5 Touring. On the BMW Motorrad side, the BMW M 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 R, and BMW M 1000 XR complete this unique offering.

A historical Nürburgring Green paint, developed exclusively for the edition, identifies all nine anniversary models, and edition- and model-specific elements complement it. The tagline "Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets." sums up the concept: it transfers motorsport know-how into high-performance vehicles built for the road.

"The Nürburgring is much more than just a racetrack for us – it is a second home for BMW M. All our production vehicles are put through their paces on the Nordschleife. With the Edition 100 Jahre Nürburgring, we celebrate our long-standing and successful relationship with the Nürburgring." Frank van Meel, CEO BMW M GmbH.

"The Nordschleife has been part of the DNA of our M models for years. With our special models for the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring, we pay tribute to a place that has made motorsport history and, to this day, shapes the connection between racetrack and road like no other." Markus Flasch, CEO BMW Motorrad.

A design concept unites nine models.
The design concept incorporates the "100 Years" logo, the "Nürburgring since 1927" wording, and the Nürburgring silhouette. Historical Nürburgring Green forms the visual link across the edition, and model-specific graphics, materials, and accent colours carry this design through to both cars and motorcycles.

On the BMW M automobiles, edition graphics appear on the front doors, C-pillar, and rear side sections, depending on the model. Exclusive roof stripes also define the look: they run across the M carbon roof on the BMW M2, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupé, and BMW M5 Sedan, and across the steel roof on the BMW M3 Touring and BMW M5 Touring. Light grey tones, Nürburgring Green, and black define the colour scheme, while model-dependent green accents on the wheels and kidney frames complete the look. Buyers can also choose Black Sapphire metallic as an alternative.

The BMW Motorrad special models feature a painted fuel tank with a Nürburgring silhouette, an airbox cover in the anniversary design with an individual "one of 100" marking, carbon wheels with Nürburgring Green accent stripes, and a seat in Alcantara look with an embroidered "100." Black components, including the rear swingarm and rear frame, round off the look.

Interior and motorcycle details create a unique yet cohesive character.
Inside the BMW M automobiles, a black interior meets contrasting green-and-white stitching. The inline six-cylinder models gain an M Alcantara steering wheel with matching stitching and a 12 o'clock marker, while the BMW M5 models feature an M steering wheel with the same design signature.

On the motorcycles, visible carbon, Alcantara look, black chassis components, and individual anniversary markings add high-quality, functional accents. Together, these details create a consistent edition character while preserving the distinct identities of car and motorcycle.

BMW M Ignite delivers efficiency under high load for the inline six-cylinder.
The 100 Jahre Nürburgring edition builds on BMW M GmbH's existing high-performance models. BMW M Ignite stands out as a key technical innovation for the inline six-cylinder models. This patented pre-chamber ignition system has powered the engines of the BMW M2, BMW M3, and BMW M4 since July and August 2026. It boosts efficiency, particularly under high load, cuts consumption under racetrack conditions, and helps the cars meet Euro 7 requirements, all without sacrificing performance. BMW M Ignite therefore exemplifies the direct transfer of motorsport technology to the road.

The BMW M edition models.
The BMW M2 offers the compact entry point into the edition, pairing an inline six-cylinder engine with short proportions and a driver-focused character throughout. Its M carbon roof, M carbon bucket seats, exclusive paintwork, and specific graphics all emphasise its connection to the Nordschleife.

The BMW M3 Sedan combines everyday usability, precision, and racetrack competence. Nürburgring graphics, an M carbon roof, and green wheel accents define its edition appearance, while BMW M Ignite optimises high-load operation.

The BMW M3 Touring pairs the driving dynamics of the BMW M3 range with high versatility. In this edition, it combines high performance, practicality, and Nordschleife expertise.

The BMW M4 Coupé sets a particularly sporty tone as a two-door performance icon, thanks to its M carbon roof, BMW M stripes, and striking edition-specific accents. BMW M Ignite also underlines the transfer of technology to the production model.

The BMW M5 Sedan pairs its M HYBRID drive with everyday usability. An M carbon roof, Styling 951 M wheels with green accents, and black Nordschleife embroidery deliver targeted anniversary highlights.

The BMW M5 Touring combines the M HYBRID drive with high versatility, and its steel roof with exclusive stripe design carries the shared edition appearance in a model-specific way.

BMW Motorrad "100 Jahre Nürburgring" Edition.
The BMW M 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 R, and BMW M 1000 XR make up the motorcycle side of the anniversary edition, and each model is limited to 100 units worldwide.

Standard edition equipment includes the M Track Package, historical Nürburgring Green paint, anniversary decals, carbon wheels, a black rear swingarm and rear frame, and a seat in Alcantara look with "100" embroidery. The painted fuel tank with Nordschleife decor and the airbox cover with anniversary design and "one of 100" marking create a direct link to the racetrack. An M Cover Kit for the BMW M 1000 RR and BMW M 1000 R, an exclusive M motorcycle mat featuring the 100 Jahre Nürburgring logo, and a rear-wheel paddock stand complete the package.

The BMW M 1000 RR delivers an uncompromising Supersport experience, built for maximum racetrack orientation, aerodynamic precision, and consistent lightweight construction. Its immediate driving dynamics clearly target personal best times.

The BMW M 1000 R transfers Superbike performance to both road and circuit as a hyper naked bike. Power, agility, and direct feedback define its purist M character.

The BMW M 1000 XR combines powerful strength and high-speed stability with long-distance ergonomics as a high-performance crossover, placing dynamics, precision, and versatility at the forefront.

Ordering and availability.
Customers can order the BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M3 Touring, BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M5 Sedan, and BMW M5 Touring from September 2026, and the BMW M2 following in January 2027. BMW will announce ordering and availability details for the Motorrad special models separately.

With nine high-performance models, BMW M and BMW Motorrad bring the spirit of the Green Hell to the road. This anniversary edition pays tribute to 100 years of the Nürburgring and visibly commits to transferring racetrack technology to production vehicles.

The "Green Hell" sets the benchmark for development.
The 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife, with its 73 corners, significant elevation changes, and varying track characteristics, ranks among the most demanding racetracks in the world. BMW Motorrad's connection to the Nürburgring dates back to 1927, when the brand claimed its first victory there.

For BMW M and BMW Motorrad, the Nürburgring serves as a development track, a benchmark, and a stage for ultimate performance. Under extreme conditions, engineers test chassis, powertrain, aerodynamics, brakes, and thermal management in combination, and the insights gained flow directly into series development.
