Hyundai Mobis to Supply Robot Actuators for Atlas Humanoid

Hyundai Mobis announced a strategic collaboration with Boston Dynamics, a global robotics leader, at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

The company said on the 7th that it will supply robot actuators for Atlas, Boston Dynamics's next-generation humanoid robot. Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) included this work in its new US$26 billion investment in the United States. HMG plans to build and deploy tens of thousands of robots over the next few years, and the collaboration with Hyundai Mobis will accelerate mass production plans for Atlas across Boston Dynamics and HMG.

This agreement gives Hyundai Mobis its first official customer in the robotics sector and marks a significant milestone as it enters the global robot components market.

Over the past several years, Hyundai Mobis expanded beyond automotive and reshaped its business portfolio to include value-added fields such as robotics. This shift supports the company’s mid to long-term strategy. Hyundai Mobis aims to respond to a rapidly evolving mobility landscape and build a sustainable business foundation.

Hyundai Mobis is now leveraging its automotive component engineering and large-scale manufacturing expertise to enter the robot actuator market, a move that closely aligns with its core strengths. Actuators convert control signals into physical movement, and humanoid robots depend on them as a critical subsystem. Actuators also account for more than 60% of a humanoid robot’s material cost.

The strategic cooperation and the actuator supply deal will benefit both companies. Boston Dynamics valued Hyundai Mobis's engineering expertise, reliability-based evaluation systems, and global-standard mass production capabilities.

Hyundai Mobis will also gain a stable, long-term demand partner by securing Boston Dynamics as its first customer for robotics components. The company plans to use this momentum to build a large-scale robot actuator manufacturing system and strengthen its design capability for high-performance robotics components.

Se Uk Oh, Vice President and Head of the Robotics Business Innovation Group at Hyundai Mobis, said, "Our participation in developing actuators for Boston Dynamics's next-generation humanoid robot Atlas makes a significant step in strengthening the global robotics component ecosystem. Hyundai Mobis will leverage this relationship to accelerate advancements in development, manufacturing, and quality assurance."

Zack Jackowski, General Manager of Atlas at Boston Dynamics, stated, "Actuators play a critical role in enabling humanoid robots to perform physical movements. By working with Hyundai Mobis, a company with proven expertise in the global automotive business, we expect to build a highly reliable component supply chain and accelerate the pace of actuator development. This collaboration allows us to access the well-established cost structures and scale potential of the automotive industry."

The collaboration will help both companies pursue leadership in the emerging robotics components industry. The robot component market currently lacks a dominant global player, and a reliable, cost-competitive, large-scale supply system could help both companies achieve economies of scale early.

In August last year, Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to build a robot factory capable of producing 30,000 units annually and develop the site into a North American robotics production hub. Demand for robot components used in manufacturing will likely rise, and Hyundai Mobis will play a more significant role in the broader robotics ecosystem.
