Jet Black 59: Exclusive Le Mans McLaren Photobook & Model

Jet Black 59 unveils a fresh perspective on the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans victory by the #59 McLaren F1 GTR, an achievement that remains a defining moment in endurance racing history. The limited edition photobook places readers inside the Lanzante garage, revealing intimate moments that drove the British team to glory.

Acclaimed Japanese photographer Mikio Hasui captured more than 100 previously unseen black-and-white images during the unforgettable weekend, documenting drivers, pit-lane tension and flat-out night running through his Leica and Canon cameras. Translators converted his meticulous Japanese notebook annotations into English, enriching each frame with personal insights from the man whose brother-in-law, Masanori Sekiya, piloted the winning car.

Japanese model specialists Make Up recreate chassis 01R in 1:18 scale, with a limited production run of only 59 life-like models. Direct conversations with the original crew revealed details such as race-worn grime, cleaned paint around the fuel filler and the exposed tape mark on the front bumper, allowing Make Up to replicate every battle scar faithfully.

Motorsport connoisseurs can secure the numbered photobook alone for £495, with a worldwide print run of just 300 copies, or claim the first 59 books packaged with the precision model in a bespoke display case for £1,995. Hasui produces each individually commissioned archival print through an extended wet-printing process on Baryta professional paper and signs it by hand to guarantee authenticity.

Lanzante will debut the complete collection at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday 10 July, giving collectors a rare opportunity to own a tangible slice of McLaren F1 GTR history and celebrate the enduring legend of its 1995 Le Mans triumph.
