Polestar 7 to Debut in Europe With Volvo Factory Build
Polestar has expanded its contract manufacturing into Europe by signing a memorandum of understanding with Volvo Cars to build the Polestar 7 at Volvo’s new factory in Kosice, Slovakia, ahead of the premium compact SUV’s 2028 debut. The forthcoming Polestar 7 will be based on architecture sourced from within the Geely Holding Group and will employ Volvo technology, including cell-to-body design, next-generation battery density, and in-house developed e-motors. Polestar will fine-tune these foundations to deliver the dynamic driving experience that defines the brand.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, remarks: “Working with Volvo Cars to develop and manufacture Polestar 7 in Europe is a unique opportunity that will strengthen our position in our home market. Our strategy of utilising Group architectures as the base for our future model lineup gives us access to the best, latest technologies in a cost-efficient manner. With a design and sporty driving characteristics that are instantly recognisable, Polestar 7 will set new standards in the premium compact SUV segment.”
Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Cars President and CEO, adds: “Our collaboration with Polestar on the development and manufacturing of the Polestar 7 underscores how Volvo Cars and Polestar continue to leverage synergies to deliver outstanding vehicles built for our distinct customer segments efficiently.”
Volvo began building the Kosice plant in 2023, selecting the site due to its strong logistics links to European markets and its established supplier base. This strategic location positions the Polestar 7 for an efficient European production launch, reinforcing Polestar’s commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility.
