McLaren W1 Debuts at Goodwood, Celebrating Le Mans Legends
McLaren Automotive will light up the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed by celebrating its road-going masterpieces and motorsport triumphs in true ‘Champions and Challengers’ spirit. Taking pride of place inside McLaren House, the all-new McLaren W1 appears in public for the first time. With a 1,275 PS V8 hybrid powertrain, rear-wheel drive and Formula 1-inspired ground-effect aerodynamics, the W1 marries supercar pace with authentic drama and pure driver engagement. Only 399 examples exist, each already spoken for, and the newcomer completes the marque’s ‘1’ lineage alongside the epoch-defining McLaren F1 and hybrid hypercar McLaren P1.
Thirty years have passed since McLaren conquered the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its maiden attempt and Goodwood honours that feat in style. Fresh from the ‘McLaren a Name for Eternity’ exhibition, the victorious #59 F1 GTR returns to action on the Hillclimb, driven by original winner JJ Lehto. Nearby, McLaren unveils the strictly limited 750S Le Mans. Capped at 50 units, this supercar features an MSO High Downforce Kit that sharpens circuit performance and pays homage to the ultra-rare McLaren F1 LM.
The track-only Solus GT, whose 840 PS 5.2-litre V10 and sub-1,000 kg kerb weight stunned spectators in last year’s Timed Shootout, roars back for another dramatic run. A customer car—finished by McLaren Special Operations to mirror Mika Häkkinen’s 1998 championship-winning MP4/13—will showcase both bespoke craftsmanship and the extreme potential of McLaren’s single-seat hyper-GT.
Goodwood’s dynamic runs also welcome the 750S and Artura MCL38 Celebration Edition supercars. Created after McLaren’s 2024 Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship victory and limited to nine examples each, these cars wear a striking Papaya Orange and Anthracite livery curated by MSO. The festival further marks ten years of McLaren’s thrilling ‘LT’ models; heritage LT cars gather in the Supercar Paddock before unleashing their lightweight, track-focused performance on the Hill.
From the groundbreaking W1 debut to rare Le Mans commemoratives and bespoke hypercars, McLaren ensures the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed delivers pure automotive theatre and a masterclass in engineering excellence.
