McMurtry Spéirling PURE Enters Production for Summer 2026
As McMurtry Automotive marks its tenth anniversary, the company prepares to begin production of its internationally acclaimed hyper track car, the McMurtry Spéirling PURE. Britain’s billionaire businessman and prolific inventor Sir David McMurtry envisioned Spéirling as an electric single-seater fan car with unrivalled performance and capability. The car is best known for smashing the Goodwood Hill Climb record and becoming the first car to drive upside down.
McMurtry Automotive follows Sir David’s philosophy of innovating where others cannot. The company applies engineering creativity and works beyond convention and “industry norms”. This approach has generated more than 22 patents, and the team has met every technical and commercial target to date. The business now prepares for growth. Sir David’s sons, Richard and Ben, serve as board members and day-zero investors, and they remain committed to continuing their father’s legacy to realise his vision for McMurtry Automotive.
McMurtry has already logged over 5,000 km of test mileage with record-setting prototypes, and the company is now preparing for production of the Spéirling PURE. The company expects to deliver the first customer car in the summer of 2026. To support production, McMurtry has invested in a new 2700m2 facility in Wotton-under-Edge, England. This expansion, alongside McMurtry’s existing HQ, will provide the facilities needed for production and will also enable McMurtry Automotive to expand its model range in future years.
McMurtry Automotive developed innovations at scale, prompting the team to establish McMurtry Technology. The new division will operate from the original Swinhay House estate, which the company will also expand. McMurtry Technology will focus on commercialising the intellectual property, technology, processes, expertise, and approach that have made McMurtry Automotive successful as a hypercar manufacturer, enabling other OEMs to benefit.
McMurtry Technology will offer a mix of innovative products and creative engineering services across five specialisms: Downforce on DemandTM, Performance Battery Technology, Electric Powertrains, Vehicle Lightweighting, and Vehicle Software.
McMurtry Technology already works with several high-profile clients and generates seven-figure revenue, underscoring global demand for its technology.
Richard McMurtry, Joint Owner at McMurtry Automotive, commented: “Our father’s philosophy was to seek solutions beyond the known limits, to engineer creatively and freely. That remains our guiding principle today. With Spéirling entering production and McMurtry Technology established to commercialise our innovations, this is an exciting new phase of strategic growth. We have an exceptional team that is dedicated to building a future worthy of his legacy, focused on unparalleled vehicles and technologies that conclusively demonstrate the pinnacle of British engineering.”
Thomas Yates, Managing Director and Co-Founder, McMurtry Automotive: “Our tenth anniversary is a pivotal milestone. Every day since our inception in 2016 has been exciting and challenging, but mainly exciting. We are carving out a new category for extremely engaging electric track vehicles. This has required developing new technology, building a team and facility to realise our customers ' dreams worldwide. We are proud to be contributing to the industry's advancement in a small way and to attract work from other OEMs, enabling us to broaden the impact of our work through our Technology division as well. We cannot wait for the customer cars to be spotted at race tracks around the world.”
