Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 with DRS and Push2Pass

Mercedes-AMG expands its Motorsport portfolio with the new Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16, a beautiful evolution of the Mercedes-AMG GT2 unveiled in late 2022. The car blends the base model’s core attributes with technical and stylistic cues from the current Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E PERFORMANCE. An outstanding power-to-weight ratio, active louvres above the front wheels, a Push2Pass function and an integrated Drag Reduction System make the GT2 Edition W16 the most powerful Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing car to date.

The limited edition delivers up to 830 hp (610 kW) and pairs that exceptional performance with an exclusive design. A close visual link to the latest Formula 1 car includes a signature on the door sill from a well-known name: Kimi Antonelli. The current Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver serves as patron of the GT2 Edition W16, which Mercedes-AMG limits to 30 units. Mercedes-AMG has designed this collector’s car for track-day use and will deliver it at an exclusive European racetrack, accompanied by a meet-and-greet featuring leading members of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.

Mercedes-AMG builds the GT2 Edition W16 without homologation, so the car does not need to meet series regulations and can set new performance benchmarks. The striking 4.0-litre V8 biturbo from the base GT2, rated at 707 hp (520 kW), gains new turbochargers and revised engine electronics to reach a spectacular 830 hp (610 kW). This makes the GT2 Edition W16 the most powerful GT vehicle Mercedes-AMG has ever built for Customer Racing.

The car reaches peak output when you activate Push2Pass. Press the dedicated button on the multifunction steering wheel, and the system temporarily raises boost pressure to add 100 hp (73 kW) and 200 Nm of torque. Maximum torque therefore climbs to 1,000 Nm while total output reaches 830 hp. With consistent lightweight construction, including newly designed magnesium rims that echo the Formula 1 car’s colour accents, the GT2 Edition W16 weighs only 1,430 kilograms. It achieves an impressive power-to-weight ratio of about 1.7 kg per horsepower.

A proven Mercedes-AMG Motorsport transmission puts power to the track. A sequential six-speed racing gearbox with modified ratios is located at the rear axle in a transaxle configuration, connecting to the engine through a carbon fibre torque tube for high torsional rigidity and robust torque transfer. Fully adjustable four-way motorsport dampers support the double wishbone suspension, while front and rear stabilisers adjust in four stages to suit circuit and driver preferences.

Mercedes-AMG refines the GT2 model’s aerodynamics to achieve an optimum balance, validating these changes through extensive testing on Formula 1 circuits. The package adds active louvres above the front wheels, an enlarged front diffuser, aerodynamically optimised door mirrors and a carbon spoiler lip integrated into the boot lid. As on the Formula 1 car, a Drag Reduction System reduces drag and lifts top speed to over 320 km/h. Touch a steering wheel button to close the louvres and flatten the rear wing, and then choose to engage Push2Pass simultaneously or separately.

The design underlines the link to Formula 1. The colour scheme mirrors the Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E PERFORMANCE, with a hand-painted star pattern wrapping the rear flanks and delicate emerald green contrasts that reference PETRONAS, the team’s title partner. The W16-inspired exterior pairs visual drama with track purpose, completing the look of this limited Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 track day car.

Exclusivity continues inside. The door sill panels carry the hand-signed name of Kimi Antonelli, one of the two current Mercedes-AMG F1 drivers and a racer with valuable GT experience. Matt carbon fibre surfaces dominate the cockpit, while the seat, doors and centre console use PETRONAS-coloured accents. Mercedes-AMG has redesigned the CUBE CONTROLS steering wheel with improved functionality, and each car features a ‘1 of 30’ badge embedded in the centre console.

Safety matches performance. The GT2 Edition W16 uses a carbon fibre safety cell connected to the chassis, a five-point harness, safety nets, a fire extinguishing system, an extrication hatch and a motorsport safety tank. Racing ABS and multi-adjustable AMG TRACTION CONTROL work with the precisely tuned suspension and direct steering to help drivers build confidence quickly during track sessions.

The braking system features high-performance hardware with brake balance adjustable via a balance bar, using 390 mm front and 355 mm rear discs. Electronics originate from motorsport, featuring multi-adjustable ABS and traction control. The car features 18-inch AMG magnesium wheels with centre locks in the Edition W16-specific design. At the same time, the chassis utilises double wishbones at the front and rear, along with four-way adjustable rebound and compression, as well as adjustable anti-roll bars. Aerodynamic elements comprise active louvres above the front wheels, an enlarged front diffuser, optimised exterior mirrors, DRS and an additional carbon spoiler lip on the boot lid.

Practical track details reinforce its purpose. A 120-litre motorsport safety fuel tank supports long sessions. Dimensions measure 4,911 mm in length, 2,057 mm in width and 1,375 mm in height. The curb weight is 1,430 kg, highlighting the vehicle's lightweight design. The cockpit combines function and design with a refined CUBE CONTROLS wheel, matt visible carbon fibre, PETRONAS-coloured details, and a numbered badge that marks each example’s exclusivity.

Mercedes-AMG will hand over each GT2 Edition W16 at a ceremonial European racetrack event. Owners receive an in-depth vehicle briefing, dedicated track time and a meet and greet with drivers and senior figures from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. Each of the 30 cars comes with an edition-specific cover and personal racing gear from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport's Official Suppliers, OMP and Bell Helmets. The racing suit and helmet echo the official F1 team style. The retail price is EUR 679,000.00 excluding VAT.

“Formula 1® and GT Racing are the central pillars of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. The Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 combines both worlds in a single product. The limited-edition model is our most powerful Customer Racing car to date and a spectacular race and track-day vehicle in every respect. It combines fundamental characteristics of the Mercedes-AMG GT2 with stylistic and technical references from the Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E PERFORMANCE. With the exclusive handover event, we are creating an unforgettable experience“, Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.

“I had the opportunity to test drive the Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 and had so much fun that I would have loved to spend more time on the track. The Push2Pass function is a truly sensational feature. The edition model is not only fast, but also safe. This immediately inspires confidence. I am very proud to be part of this project and to have my signature immortalised in every Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16“, Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
